Principal News

Dear Sacred Heart School Community

Quite reasonably, I have been asked by a number of parents over the past few days, when school will resume as normal for our students. To be honest I do not know, but would assume it will depend upon how the positive test numbers for COVID 19 track over the remainder of this term. Like you, the staff and I would love some normality to return to our students lives from the beginning of next term, but again only time will tell. Please be rest assured that as soon as principals are given some clear direction about schools reopening, you will be informed.

A Special Gift

Earlier this term I was contacted by Joanne Holo (mother of Mili in Year Four), who very kindly offered to gift our school a plaque to acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land on which our school is built. Naturally I accepted Joanne's offer with much appreciation. On Tuesday our new plaque arrived, and open opening its packing, the striking  image below was revealed. I am sure you will agree with me that this plaque will play a very important role in symbolising the history, values and traditions of our land's Traditional Owners and of Elders past and present. Thank you Mili for choosing such a beautiful design and Joanne and Rampsay for this very special gift. We are planning a fit and proper ceremony for the unveiling of the plaque hopefully early next term. Stay tuned for more details.

Year Prep Class of 2021

On Monday I had to make contact with the families of our students who are joining us next year in Year Prep, to postpone the transition events that were due to start in the coming weeks. Our hope from a school perspective, is that things return to some form of normality next term, and our transition program can be implemented. As part of my letter, I asked Marty and Amanda to have some Year Five students write a letter to the Year Preps of 2021. Here are some examples of their great letters of introduction.

Hi my name is Oscar. I am in year 5. I have long hair and I adore sports, especially footy. I love making new friends and I love cooking for my family. I also like maths and i like addition because i love adding numbers together. I really like buying new stuff especially shoes as you can see my bright red shoes. I am from Italy and i would love to go there sometime when i am older. I hope you like me and my hobbies that I like and I can't wait to see my BUDDY!!!

Hi Preps,

How’s it going? I think I probably know the answer already. It’s a tough time for everyone, but remember we’re in this together no matter what, so don’t be afraid to ask me any questions. Let me introduce myself first though. My name is Ankita. I am in year 5 and am 10 years old, turning 11 on the last day of September. My favourite colour is red and I have a cat, two chickens, a rabbit and a family of possums. It must be a tough time for you all. You can’t go to Kindergarten. You probably miss your friends and you’re probably in a dilemma right now wondering what to do. I’m fascinated in knowing a bit more about you and I can’t wait to meet you in person next year. Remember to stay safe, be kind and remember we're in this together.

Hello Everyone! My name is Sylvie and I am going to be in year six next year. I enjoy cooking, reading, playing games and dancing. We have been at home doing remote learning, and that's hard because we don’t get to see our friends. I am really looking forward to next year so that I can see everyone. I am also really looking forward to meeting you! I hope I can be your buddy in 2021! Best wishes, Sylvie.

Hi my name is Joel. Welcome to Sacred Heart AKA the best school in the world.I am really looking forward to next year as this year was mostly remote learning. Even though this year has provided us with some fun and difficult tasks, let me tell you that I would much rather be at school. Now I will tell you a bit about me. I love tennis and I am in year six next year. I like maths and writing and inquiry, term projects. If you ever feel lonely (if that is even possible at sacred heart) go to your buddy that will be one of the year 6s. If that lucky person is not at school that day feel free to go to anyone else. I hope you will be my buddy next year.I have had a wonderful experience at Sacred Heart and I am sure you will too.

Parent Feedback

Thank you to the over fifty families who completed the questionnaire from Belinda seeking feedback on aspects of our distance education program. Whilst the responses have been very positive, there has been some very constructive suggestions for our staff to try and implement to enhance the student learning during this time.

School Fees

As you may be aware the school has transitioned to a new accounting system and therefore we have not yet had the opportunity to produce tax invoices or statements for families.

When we are able to produce these they will be emailed to you via the new system.

Growing Up Digital Australia: Invitation for parents and grandparents to have your say!

Are you a parent, carer or grandparent of children aged 5 to 17?

Do you wonder how digital media and technologies that they live with might affect their wellbeing, health and learning?

If your answer to these questions is ‘yes’, we would invite you to share your views with us here

The Gonski Institute of Education at the University of NSW are working on a ground-breaking research project called Growing Up Digital Australia. This international research project that we partner with Harvard Medical School, the University of Alberta and Alberta Teachers Association seeks to understand the health, wellbeing and learning impacts of growing up in a digital world on our young people. A number of Australian organisations are supporting this project, including Departments of Education, parent organisations and teacher associations. This longitudinal study will reframe issues surrounding children’s consumption of media and digital technologies moving into an evidence-based solutions to parents, educators and young people to live healthier, safer and happier lives here in Australia.

The Growing Up Digital project Phase 1 saw us work with almost 2,000 educators from around the country and find out what is happening in classrooms through the eyes of teachers and principals. Now with this Phase 2 survey, it is your turn as parents and grandparents to have your say.

This project has Ethics approval, and poses no risk to you. Participation is voluntary and you will never be identified at any stage. By completing the survey, you have the chance to be entered into the draw for one of four $100 Coles Myer gift cards.

This Phase 2 survey will be open until 11 October, 2020. If you are a parent, carer or grandparent of any child aged 5-17, please complete the survey here. You may also share this invitation to take part in this research with others by sharing the link to the questionnaire. If you are a parent, we would be delighted if you would invite one of your child’s grandparents to take part in this survey.
