Year Two News

On Tuesday, September 15, the Year Two students became wildlife explorers! They explored stories about what makes animals special, how animals grow and change, how to care for animals and the environment in which they live, and they asked lots of wonderful questions!

Here are some quotes from the wildlife explorers about what the enjoyed or learnt from the virtual excursion:

  • “I learnt about the Baw Baw frogs. They were the best!”
  • “I loved the butterflies because they were colorful.”
  • “Me and my brother loved it so much that he pushed me off my chair so he could get a better look.”
  • “It was fun learning about the life cycles and things about animals that were interesting.”
  • “My favourite animal was the little joeys because they looked so cute and I didn’t know that they were born with no fur.”
  • “I learnt that the butterflies when they were caterpillars in the chrysalis they turn to mush and put their bodies back together.”
  • “The Baw Baw Frog can go in the water, on the ground and live amongst leaves.”
  • “Butterflies only live for up to 2 weeks.”
  • “My favourite part of the zoo excursion was that wallabies are 2cm long when they are babies.”
  • “I loved learning about how the wallabies form in the pouches - it was fascinating.”

Some questions the students would still like to ask are:

  • How many types of butterflies are there?
  • How long can frogs live?
  • How many different animals are there in the zoo?
  • How long is an elephant's trunk?

Take a look at the photos of the life cycles of Baw Baw frogs, red-bodied swallowtail butterflies and wallabies.
