Library During Remote Learning
Library Open Hours
Now that we are a few weeks into remote learning again many families have asked if there is a chance to return books and borrow some new ones. After consultation with the Leadership Team, the Library will be open for some afternoon sessions in the next few weeks:
Monday 7th September 1:00pm - 2:00pm
Friday 11th September 2:00pm - 3:00pm
We are recommending students keep up their reading using the two ebook providers we have subscribed to: Wheelers and SORA. Both of these are available from the Library links on SIMON. Years 3/4 students have SORA set up in a tab on their laptops for easy access. Don’t forget our Library Web OPAC - catalogue and webpage (http://lib.sakyabram.catholic.edu.au/#!dashboard) for great online information links as well as our catalogue for St Augustine’s resources. Email us if there is anything your child needs research and information resource help with at library1@sakyabram.vic.edu.au

Scholastic Book Club Issues 5 and 6
Thank you to those families who ordered from Book Club Issue 6. After our huge number of orders from Issue 5, this one was understandably small. For those families who have ordered, your items have arrived and can now be picked up from the College Office.
Library Lessons
There have been some terrific efforts put in by students to create work for their response to the Science Week 2020 theme ‘Deep Blue’. It is great to have students able to do some creative work as well as listening to stories about this interesting theme. One student even wrote her own song and played it on guitar in a video.
Children’s Book Week has been rescheduled to 17th-23rd October from it’s usual dates in mid August. The theme this year is Curious Creatures, Wild Minds. This week we started looking at the CBCA shortlisted books for the Children’s Book of the Year Award for 2020. Again, there are some terrific books on the shortlists of six books for each category. Students have had fun making paper hats, matching animals with their legs and looking at the Encyclopaedia of Ugly Animals.
You can look at the books and what the judges have commented on them at: https://www.cbca.org.au/shortlist-2020
