Years 1 and 2

Each morning the Years 1 and 2 students begin their day with a TA zoom. This is a great way to see their friends, join in prayer and explore the program for the day ahead. During our zooms, the students have written and shared their own prayers, shared their Science Week projects and given the class the opportunity to meet their pets. Fun Friday usually has a dress-up theme like funny hats, character dress up and a recent one was crazy hair day.

Years 1 and 2 have continued our Inquiry of animals by looking at their features, habitats, life cycles, diets and what animals need to survive.  The students recently took part in two Melbourne Zoo webinars where they became ‘Wild Explorers’ discovering the natural world around them. The students could see the information provided by the presenters and were able to ask questions in the Q&A feature which were answered by other zoo staff. It was a great opportunity to enrich our learning during this time of remote learning.

In Religious Education over the last few weeks, the children have written a collection of prayers which they collated into their own prayer books. Many of these prayers were shared in our morning zooms. This week we started a new RE topic - with the help of some special guest videos from Miss Morrissey introducing the topic of ‘Loving God and Others’. Thank you to Miss Morrisey for the interesting way she explained this topic. She asked the students to cut out the shape of their hands and write the ways they respect themselves and others.

Thank you and well done to all of the 1/2 students and their families for the wonderful way you have engaged in all aspects of remote learning.

Years 3 and 4

The Years 3 and 4 students continue to enjoy our shared text ‘The Wild Robot’. This is being read to students during the TA zoom each morning. Last week, students worked on the comprehension focus of 'Cause and Effect’ and also created a prosthesis for Roz as part of our Tuesday STEM activity.

As part of our Inquiry unit students have been learning all about oceans and ecosystems. During Week 7, students did a great job creating an arctic and coral ecosystem by adding living and non-living items to each. They then compared the two ecosystems using a venn diagram.

Students have also been learning about creating and using maps. They had to follow step by step instructions using all the knowledge they had about directions, compass points and coordinates to create a map of Shark Island. Student's produced some very intricate and colourful creations.
