Support for Jesuit Refugee Services - Stage 4

St Luke’s Feast Day Activity:

During Term 3,  Stage 4 RE students were provided with an opportunity to understand challenges to upholding human dignity in the contemporary age. They were awakened to the insights of Catholic Social Teaching (CST) and Scripture passages for liberation and human dignity.

On 16th October, as part of the St Luke’s Feast Day celebration, Stage 4 students organised a Food Drive to collect non-perishable food items and toiletries as donations to refugees and asylum seekers through Jesuit Refugee Services (JRS). They have also initiated a drive to collect bottle caps to support Envision Hands. Stage 4 students visited students from Stages 2, 3 and 5 to teach awareness lessons about refugees and asylum seekers.

We would like to say a BIG Thank you to all families who were able to donate food products to this initiative.  JRS are very grateful for the support the St Luke’s Community has been able to provide at this unique time.

Wrap with Love - Update

This year we have involved our St Luke’s Community with the Wrap with Love project to raise awareness for those in need of warmth during the cooler months.

As with all things COVID there have been some restrictions and the warehouse had been closed but has recently opened again.

We are currently in the process of sewing all squares together and will be sending the completed blankets off early in the new year, ready for the cooler months of 2021.  Below you will find a selection of blankets made this year so far - in total we will have 12 blankets to send off.

We will again run this social justice initiative in 2021.  Thank you to all those crafty people for assisting with your special gifts.

Around the Religious Education Classes…..

School of Foundations

Early Stage One. Term 4 has begun in Early Stage One with the students exploring the driving question of  “How is God the Father present to all in our world?” To initiate the thinking and wondering all the students participated in the entry event task to find out “What is in the bag? “The students discovered candles, party hats and even tinsel and then they had to think about what do birthdays and Christmas relate to? The next step was to talk about what they already knew about the driving question as well as what they still needed to know to help them answer the question!

Stage One

For the students in Stage One this term, they will be busy exploring the driving question of “ What is Prayer?” The students began with an entry event that involved them working with a partner to scan  QR codes and look at different pictures and view short clips. Each pair of students had to answer ‘how are the people communicating?’ and ‘ What emotions can you see?’ There was lots of talking and sharing of ideas…

Stage Two

This term in Stage 2 the students  are exploring the driving question of  "How can we be signs and symbols of God's grace in our world?"  To help the students begin their journey of learning they all participated in an entry event where the students went on a ‘gallery’ walk to view a range of photos...I wonder what they saw and how many connections they made?

School of Leadership

Stage Three. In Term 4, students will be exploring the challenges and opportunities of interfaith relations. They will be wondering about the similarities and differences between people of faith. Students will appreciate the implications of the teachings of Jesus on religious, ethical and cultural diversity.

Stage Four. In Term 4, students are responding to the driving question, ‘Is it right to fight for peace?’. They are wondering about the celebration of the Eucharist, the purpose of the Mass and the promotion of peace in our world. Students will be exploring the Just War Theory and its link to the Christian tradition.

School of Entrepreneurs

Stage Five. For the students in Stage Five this term they will be exploring the driving question of “ How can I love others even though their perspectives are different to mine? ” The students began with an entry event that involved them looking at a website of people from all different places and religions around the world talking of their lives and challenges, students also spent time looking at the Eucharist as the Source and Summit of our faith.  Students will spend time looking at conflict resolution and how they can become the voice of the voiceless.  Students will dig deeper and look further at methods and the potential of dialogue as a means to transform and encounter others.
