A Dozen Diabolical Questions

In the spirit of staying connected and having some fun during Stage 3 Restrictions, we asked a Year 12 student and Girton staff member to share a little more about themselves.  We asked them 12 questions which have been popularized by Marcel Proust, who believed that, in answering these questions, an individual reveals his or her true nature.

What is your greatest extravagance?

Having too many pairs of shoes

 

What is your greatest fear?

Magpies, getting swooped freaks me out 

 

Which living person do you most admire?

I admire my fellow year 12s, the class of 2020 - we have almost made it through this year no matter what hurdles 2020 has thrown at us 

 

Which words or phrases do you most overuse?

‘I have a SAC next week'

 

Which talent would you most like to have?

To sing (well)

 

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

Sometimes, what we think are imperfections are not always perceived as imperfection by those around you

 

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

Performing as a concerto soloist 

 

Where would you most like to live?

Near the beach or somewhere green

 

What is your most treasured possession?

My oboe

 

What do you most value in your friends?

Kindness, trust and loyalty 

 

What is it that you most dislike?

Its a tough choice between tomatoes and bananas 

 

What is your motto?

Don’t take any day for granted

 

Mrs Prue Beckwith

What is your greatest extravagance?

Travelling business class on long haul flights.

 

What is your greatest fear?

Don’t laugh – Moths. I am absolutely petrified of moths. I have a true phobia of them and have had since I was little.

 

Which living person do you most admire?

Sir David Attenborough. I have travelled extensively throughout the world and they have generally been to places that I have been inspired by him to visit.

 

Which words or phrases do you most overuse?

My students would probably say I overuse the phrase “this is really important”. 

 

Which talent would you most like to have?

I would love to be able to play the piano, to be able to sit down and play anything without sheet music.

 

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

I am not particularly patient sometimes. I think I would like to be more patient.

 

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

Completing life-long travel ambitions. I had always wanted to go to the Galapogos Islands, see Machu Picchu, visit Venice, visit the Vatican, go on safari in Kenya and I’d always wanted to see the Mountain Gorillas in Unganda, so I did! 

 

Where would you most like to live?

If it were Internationally it would be Paris, it is such a beautiful, romantic city. 

 

What is your most treasured possession?

My necklace holds a great deal of sentimental value to me.

 

What do you most value in your friends?

Loyalty and honesty. Two traits I definitely look for in friends.

 

What is it that you most dislike?

Arrogance. It’s my pet hate.

 

What is your motto?

My year 12 Physics teacher told my class the saying “Whether you believe you can, or you can’t, you are right”. This has always stuck with me. It is a mindset, if you believe you can, then you will. If you believe you can’t, then you never will.
