CYBER SAFETY AT COHR

What are our students doing online?

Earlier this term we shared a Digital Habits survey with our 5/6 students. Check out some of the insights into what our students are doing with their time online.

National eSmart Week

Last week was National eSmart Week, an annual celebration which aims to promote the smart, safe and responsible use of digital technology. To mark this important week, our Year 5/6 students participated in a webinar led by The Office of the Children's eSafety Commissioner.

During the 'Be an eSafe kid privacy and security' webinar, students were invited to:

  • explore what privacy and personal information means
  • consider who an online ‘stranger’ might be
  • develop strategies and skills to keep their accounts secure
  • learn where to go for help and support.

For more information students are encouraged to visit the eSafety Kids page: https://www.esafety.gov.au/kids.

Staying connected online has never been more important, now that many of us are physically isolated from family members, friends, colleagues and support networks. The internet is a great way to socialise, learn, work, play and stay entertained. But there are also risks. It is vitally important that parents and carers monitor their child's online activities and have conversations with them around this.

The eSafety Parents page offers advice about 'the big issues', access to a range of resources and information about free webinars for parents and carers to help children have safe experiences online. Visit: https://www.esafety.gov.au/parents for more.
