Discovery Centre

Curriculum

What a busy week we had in the Discovery Centre. FD and FT had their dental visits, and participated in an informative and fun presentation by Little Smiles from Carrington Health Centre.  On Wednesday it was Indonesian Day, and students visited different teachers to learn about different aspects of Indonesian culture. We learned about kite making,  a traditional dance called 'kuda lumping' (meaning 'flat horse') and had an exciting sarong race, among other fun activities.

In Literacy this week, we focused on sequencing the order of events in a story, representing the beginning, middle and end. We also discussed how narratives often have a problem and solution. In Writing we looked at writing personal recounts, such as when reflecting on Indonesian Day. We also wrote letters of gratitude, in preparation for Wellbeing Night this week!

In Maths we continued our investigation into skip-counting. Students practised skip-counting by 10s, 5s and 2s, familiarising themselves with the number patterns by playing games and finding patterns in number lines and charts.

Next week we will continue our work on story sequencing, and looking at characters, and identifying how characters might be thinking and feeling. We will also begin investigating Measurement in Maths, particularly length, mass and capacity. We are also really looking forward to our 100 Days of School celebration this Tuesday. What a fantastic achievement for all our Foundation students. Parents have been invited to come to  help make crowns at 2.45PM, and to watch our parade at 3.50PM.

Have a wonderful week,

Miss Erin Dawson, Miss Katrina Chooi, Mrs Samantha Tang and Miss Jess Tossell
