Inquiry Centre

Curriculum
Last week was a fantastic week with Three Way Conferences. The 1/2 students were all very excited to share their scripts and traffic lights with parents. We really appreciated hearing the input from parents about which of your child's goal you will help them achieve and how you will do this. Thank you all for coming along!
In Mathematics across the week, the 1/2 students have been focusing on Division. The students practiced using strategies such as groups, repeated subtraction and arrays to share numbers equally, with some students exploring remainders. In Writing sessions, students focused on writing sequenced retells of stories using the ‘somebody, wanted, but, so, and then’ organiser. They identified the main character (somebody), what they wanted, the problem of the story (but), the solution (so), and then what happened in the end of the story when reading ‘Recess Queen’. During independent reading across the week, the students read aloud with a reading buddy and had the opportunity to give each other feedback about their reading or their individual reading goal using the Feedback Sandwich. They told their partner something they did well, something they could improve on and what their next step might be.
As part of Student Voice, this term the Inquiry Centre has started a new cooking schedule.
Each week two classes will have the opportunity to cook either mini pizzas or fried rice. Last week 1/2E started the week off by making mini pizzas and exploring the different toppings they could include on their treat. 1/2M made fried rice jam packed with different veggies! The students had the opportunity to practise both their cutting skills and their measuring skills. Keep an eye out on Instagram to see more classes cooking these delicious treats!
Wednesday was the highlight of the week with Indonesian Day! It was excellent to see all students dressed up in red and white or in Indonesian style clothing for the day. The Inquiry Centre were lucky enough to cook again last week, making delicious green Dadar Gulung pancakes. I think all students (and teachers!) gave those pancakes a 10/10! We also investigated different styles of Indonesian clothing from the many different islands, and the students made their own paper person with this clothing.
