Independence Centre

Curriculum

It was wonderful to sit down with students and their parents for the 3-Way Conferences last week. It is always a great opportunity to continue the positive and open communication between the school and home. If you could not make it to your interview, please contact your child’s class teacher to arrange a catch-up interview.

We are very excited for the upcoming athletics day this Wednesday! Students have been busy preparing for the events during 3/4 sport and are eager to put their skills to the test. It would be great if you could encourage your child to wear their house colours on the day.

In Mathematics last week we began to investigate division, as well as looking at the relationship between division and multiplication. Students were very engaged in a problem solving activity on Friday, using their knowledge of problem solving strategies to try and assemble a cube using a specific number of pieces that was required to show one of each colour on every side.

In Reading, we practised our ability to make open and closed questions about non-fiction texts based on observations before, during, and after reading. This week we will be looking at activating and utilising prior knowledge. Prior knowledge is utilised by many different reading skills, so this will be a very busy week!

For Writing, we have been busy working on setting and writing goals. Thanks to all the parents that were able to have some input on some of the goals that their child was setting. This week, we will be busy developing cinquains. It is always inspiring to see their creative poetry pieces!

Have a fantastic week!
