Leadership Centre

Curriculum
What a week of hands-on learning, celebrating Indonesian Day and sharing our goals and character strengths with parents in three way conferences. It has been fantastic to see students taking ownership of their learning goals for Term Three and thoughtfully reflecting on what areas they would like to improve in.
On Wednesday, the Leadership Centre was filled with red and white for Indonesian Day. Throughout the day, students rotated through a range of activities that immersed them in Indonesian culture, language, games and food. Thank you to Bu Mundy for coordinating such a fabulous day – the students and staff had a blast!
In Writing this week, students had the opportunity to apply their understanding of reviews after a week of analysing and studying the structure, language and purpose. Following our trip to Forest Hill College to watch Rock of Ages, students used the writing process as a guide to prepare a review that included general information, a plot summary, their opinion on different elements of the musical and a clear recommendation. A highlight of the writing process was the peer feedback session where students shared their writing on Google Docs and left detailed comments of what went well and what their next step could be.
In Maths, we faced an exciting challenge to showcase our problem solving strategies. Here’s the problem – see if you can find a strategy that works for you!
“You are planning a party for 32 people and have lots of small square tables. One person can sit at each edge of the square tables. How can you arrange the tables to make one big table for your party using the least amount of smaller tables?”
Some of our favourite strategies for this task were drawing a diagram, using concrete materials and digital technologies, finding patterns and even writing an algebraic expression.
Student Voice:
“I liked using digital technology for the tables task because it was easier to count and you see more clearly to work out” – Lucy B 5/6G
“I find it the most effective to merge the find a rule with finding a pattern and drawing a table to solve the tables problem. This is good so you can get an algebraic equation. This is helpful so you can get the answer every time you do it” – Liam G 5/6G
