Principal's Report

Aussie of the Month
It was my pleasure to award Aussie of the Month for July to Kaitlyn S with Nicole from Mr Bruce Atkinson's office. Kaitlyn always upholds the school values and can be relied upon to offer a helping hand to students, teachers and staff. She displays the character strength kindness, through the way she works with others and can often be seen giving compliments.
Kaitlyn enters the classroom every day with a smile, positive attitude and willingness to learn. She approaches all learning tasks with a positive attitude and enjoys challenging herself. She has exceptional manners and always says please and thank you, to all in the school.
Kaitlyn loves to play the violin, enjoys swimming and demonstrates teamwork and creativity at Girl Guides. She applies feedback received from teachers and peers, ensuring her work is completed to the best of her ability and shows a love of learning and curiosity through the questions she asks during class discussions. Kaitlyn recently ran an activity for the Inquiry Centre, student choice and voice hour, making origami book marks.
It has been a delight to see Kaitlyn grow into such a positive role model for all in the Inquiry Centre and she is a valued member of 1/2E!
Indonesian Day
A sea of Red and White and many interesting traditional Indonesian costumes were on display on Wednesday. Thank you to parents, staff and Bu Mundy for all their work in supporting students to have an amazing day. I was even invited to try some of the results of student cooking, which were delicious.
Our Values
In response to feedback that we received from our parent forums we are considering changing one of our values from Tolerance to Inclusion. Staff and students are trialling this for the term, with Year 5 students already having investigated the meaning of both words. We feel the value of inclusion is about moving beyond tolerance. It means being able to respect others' and willing to accept that everyone is different and through our differences we have strength. This fits well with our Guided Inquiry unit on Social Justice this term and the work being done around character strengths. We want everyone to be heard and respected for our character not just for what makes us different on the outside. Tolerance seems to be about 'putting up with' our differences, merely tolerating, where inclusion is about accepting each others differences and true respect.
2019 Parent Opinion Survey
WE WANT OUR PARENTS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK!
The Parent Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education and Training that is conducted amongst a sample of randomly selected parents. It is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of parents’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour and student engagement. Our school will use the survey results, just like the recent parent forums and parent event feedback to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies.
Approximately 30 per cent of parents will be invited to participate in this year’s survey. All responses to the survey are anonymous.
The survey will be conducted online, only takes 10-15 minutes to complete, and can be accessed on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones. The online survey will be available in a range of languages other than English. These include: Arabic, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Chin (hakha), Hindi, Japanese, Somali, Turkish, Punjabi and Greek.
If you are one of our selected families please complete the survey so that we can continue to build on our successes and target our areas for improvement. The survey results will be reported back to the school at the end of September.
School Lunch Orders
I took the opportunity to compare my order with a couple of students and collected some recommendations for my order next week. I have to say that the Lamb Wrap was a very tasty choice. Thanks to Tasia for reminding me to get my order in on Thursday. It is quite easy now I have the FlexiSchools app installed.
Parent Managed Head Lice Program
Thank you to all the parents who came along to help Meagan Sieh and Karyn Liu conduct the head lice checks. The program is instrumental in keeping the occurrences of head lice in check. Please follow the instructions on the letter sent home and I thank the parents who continue to support us by giving permission for their child to participate in the program.
Social Media
We have had feedback from parents regarding the posting of photos and film of other students on personal and public social media pages. This is not appropriate and does not meet our Child Safe responsibilities. Parents are discouraged from filming or taking photos of whole school events particularly when other children are recorded and of course to post any photos or film particularly of students in uniform, is not okay. Events includes pupil of the week, athletics days, school events and the like. I appreciate all parents and families respecting the appropriate use of Social Media in regards to our students' safety.
