P&F Baristas

In 2018 members of P&F had the opportunity to qualify as baristas on the HT coffee cart.  Arranged by Adam Somes in conjunction with Paul from Mocha Monkey, the training was provided over the course of a Saturday morning in the foyer of the VCE Centre with 3 coffee machines.  A number of keen members participated and proved that old dogs can learn new tricks!

All participants qualified and were presented with their Barista Certificates in Term 2 this year.  The P&F are now a capable and qualified support team for the Year 9 Barista Program.  We will be in charge of the HT coffee cart for the Monash Youth Music Festival (together with available Year 9 baristas) on the day of August 17.  Please see us outside the MYC on the day for a fresh coffee and a sausage or treat  from the P&F sausage sizzle.

P&F extends our sincere thanks to Paul of Mocha Monkey and to Adam Somes (since departed) and HT for generously sponsoring the P&F barista training.  The skills gained will be put to good use at the various P&F-supported activities throughout the year, including Arts in the Round and Trivia Night.

Godspell

Will you be attending the upcoming HT Musical performances of Godspell?  If so, you are doubly in luck.  The P&F will be supporting each of the performances with supper during intermission.  Please bring your loose change, make a beeline for the P&F tables in the MYC and enjoy tea, coffee and other sweet treats during intermission.  All profits collected at the events will be returned to HT on P&F sponsored and supported initiatives.

Huntingtower Homemade Fruit Cakes

Our wonderful Parents and Friends Baking Group have once again kindly offered their volunteer services to bake homemade fruit cakes for our HT community.

The fruitcakes are baked with the highest quality ingredients, Australian made and grown whenever possible. The recipe has a long standing history at Huntingtower.

Our Huntingtower homemade fruitcake is baked at a low heat and over a long time compared to other cakes. The idea is to form a crust on the outside so that the inside will remain moist. Most of this moisture will be trapped within the fruit. The higher the fruit content within the cake, the longer it will stay moist and good to eat.  Prior to cooking, the fruit is also soaked in alcohol; this acts to flavour the fruit and preserve the cake.

Please note that the fruitcakes contain mixed fruit, butter, fruit marmalade, spices, sugar, eggs, wheat flour, vanilla, alcohol and nuts or traces of nuts. If iced this will be with marzipan (contains nuts) and fondant icing. Some ingredients may cause intolerances or allergies in some people.

The fruitcake initiative has been generously supported by a donation of mixed fruit from Sunbeam Foods Pty Ltd.

All profits raised from this initiative go directly to the Parents and Friends Association and will be returned to the school in projects that will benefit our students.

Orders forms with instructions are available via the year level Class Representative, Firefly and the HT Bulletin. A discounted price is on offer for orders placed and paid in full by August 31st. Final orders will be taken up until September 30th.

The P&F would like to sincerely thank the parents who have kindly offered to participate in this initiative.

Any questions in relation to the homemade fruit cakes can be directed to the Huntingtower P&F Secretary at parentsandfriends1@outlook.com

We look forward to your support!
