Semester 2 Assessment

Teachers assess student achievement in a variety of ways and this is an ongoing process throughout the school year. One assessment used by teachers is PAT Testing.

PAT assessments measure what students know, understand and are capable of across the Victorian Curriculum domains, and help monitor progress over time. At Rangeview, students in Levels 1 to 6 take part in PAT assessments, with students in Levels 2 to 6 completing the assessments twice yearly. You may hear your child talking about doing the PAT!

PAT Mathematics

This online assessment measures student ability across the 3 content strands of:

- Number and Algebra

- Measurement and Geometry

- Statistics and Probability

The PAT Mathematics assessment addresses the proficiencies of fluency, understanding, problem solving and reasoning. Questions can be both interactive and multiple choice and the assessment takes approximately 40 minutes.

PAT Reading

This online assessment assesses the reading comprehension of our students, covering four broad strands:

-Retrieve

-Interpret implied

-Interpret explicit

-Reflect

The reading assessment takes approximately 40 minutes and includes both interactive and multiple choice questions.

Junior House Athletics Carnival

What a fabulous day for our Foundation to Level 2 students, taking part in the Junior House Sports Carnival. Students competed in a number of activities on Friday 11th November, representing their houses of Arbor, Terra, Hydro and Solar.

A big thank you to Mitch Clark and Lisa O'Connor for your preparation and organisation of the day, as well as our wonderful student leaders for assisting our junior students.

Thank you also to Noel Jones Mitcham for providing the coffee cart.

Congratulations Arbor on taking home the trophy!

Preparing for a Presentation

Practice makes perfect! Congratulations Crosby from Level 3 on your trial-run presentation in preparation for the First Lego League competition on Saturday 12th November at Cornish College in Bangholme. Crosby designed a playground that could produce energy to run a variety of electrical devices in a school. I was honoured to be your  rehearsal audience!

Semester 2 Student Reports and Portfolios

Our teachers have been hard at work writing Semester 2 reports and supporting students with assessment tasks. Student reports are written twice yearly, at the end of Semester 1 and at the end of Semester 2. Student reports record progress and achievement of students against the Victorian Curriculum F-10 achievement standards.

Student Learning Portfolios allow a shared approach to learning and encourage students to strive towards producing their best work and reflect on their learning progress. The portfolios contain a variety of assessment tasks, designed to meet the Victorian Curriculum Achievement Standards. Portfolios will be sent home with students on Monday 19th December for families to cherish and keep.

Student reports will be available to parents and carers on the Compass Parent Portal at 3.30pm on Monday 19th December.  If you have any difficulties accessing your parent portal, please contact the school office on 9874 6381.

Student Mobile Phones

In accordance with the Department of Education Mobile Phones – Student Use Policy issued by the Minister for Education, personal student mobile phones must not be used while on-site at Rangeview Primary School during school hours, including lunchtime and recess. Students are encouraged not to bring mobile phones and smart watches to school unless absolutely necessary.

Where students bring a mobile phone to school or any other device with internet connectivity, Rangeview Primary School will provide secure storage and students are required to store their phones and devices by handing them into the school administration office to be placed in a lockable cupboard before school. The devices can then be collected from the office after the 3.30pm school bell.

Before and After School Supervision

All schools have a legal duty of care to ensure the safety of their students. At no time can children be left unattended in the playground without adult supervision. School playgrounds are supervised by staff from 8.45am each morning and until 3.45pm in the afternoon. Prior to this time and after this time, supervision is not available and we ask that children are not left in the playground unattended at any time.

OSH Club is the Outside School Hours Care service available at Rangeview Primary School. This service is available from 7.00am until 8.45am each school morning and from 3.30pm until 6.00pm each weekday evening.  Bookings can be made by calling 1300395735 or by going to the website  oshclub.com.au.
