Level 1
The term has continued to have a big buzz as we move closer to the end of the year. There has been so much to do and the children have continued to participate in a variety of activities.
Literacy
The students are revising many reading strategies which were taught earlier in the year.
· Determining the main idea of a story and discovering the supporting details
· Author’s purpose
· Chunking words
They’ve completed many activities during the Reading Workshop.
During Writing sessions, the students have continued to work on Persuasive Text. They wrote a piece on ‘Why People Should Save Water.’ It has been wonderful to see them use a variety of ‘strong’ words to make their writing sound more convincing eg. definitely, vital, certainly. The students have also used transition words and paragraphs to organize their thoughts.
Mathematics
The Mathematical learning has continued to bubble along as the students have worked on Chance. They have focused on chance words we use in general life eg will, won’t and might. The students have looked at the chance of something happening, whether it is more likely, less likely or equally likely.
Inquiry
There has been a lot of chatter about water! The students have been very engaged in a water cycle experiment. They are now currently making observations of their experiment and are working on a
booklet. They are very excited to find out what will happen and they have made their very own predictions.
Christmas Carols
Lots of singing can be heard from the classrooms. The students are starting to learn their song for the Carols Night. The date for the Carols night is Wednesday 7th December. 1M & 1R will be performing together on the night and 1GP & 1A will be performing together.
Please start thinking about what your child will be wearing on the night. We would like all students to wear Christmas colours for the big occasion. More information will be provided soon.
Kind regards,
