Year 4 Incursion
On Tuesday 25 October, Year 4 had an incursion about the body. It was wonderful! We met Dr Leung, an expert on the human body. Firstly he talked about the hospital he works in. Then he showed us two diagrams and took some parts out. We learnt about the heart, lungs, brain, sugar levels, liver, intestines and skin. Did you know that your skin is the largest organ in your body? We got to pass around the different organs to see them all. The only organ that we couldn't pass around was the skin! We learnt so many new, cool things such as, one lolly bag is about 40 teaspoons of sugar!! Maybe Halloween isn't so healthy after all! Another crazy fact is that you don't just have veins, you have arteries. Veins and arteries are everywhere in your body, because your whole body needs blood. Wait...I made a mistake! There is only one place that doesn't get blood - the cornea, a part of the eye! The day was really fun and everyone enjoyed it!

On Tuesday the 25 of October, Dr Leung came to visit Sacred Heart to talk to us. He came to talk to us about the environment, food, health and where he works.
He told us that most of the food on this earth is wasted. Also, most electricity comes from fossil fuels when burnt. Did you know six out of one hundred Australians eat the correct amount of healthy food? He said that there are 7.7 billion people on this planet. He told us about the periodic table that includes calcium and sodium.
One of the most interesting parts of information Dr Leung taught us was health. He taught us about healthy foods such as fibre, vegetables, fruits, protein and dairy. They are all the foods of the healthy eating guidelines. If you eat unhealthy food like chips and lollies you will have high cholesterol and fatty liver. We also learnt about the brain, the stomach, the heart and blocked arteries. This was fascinating.
We really enjoyed Dr Leung coming to our school because he taught us a lot.
