Visual Arts

Last week in visual arts students were introduced to threading and textiles with all students starting with paper weaving. Then the foundation and year 1/2 students used various materials to thread with and were able to understand the weaving and threading technique of pattern and repetition. Whereas the year 3-6 students were introduced to sewing, starting with some basic stitches, such as: running stitch and over stitch. Students were able to make a little pillow character using the over stitch.

Year 6 students continued to work on their ‘Leaving Your Mark’ art project. We only have 1 more session left so hopefully all students will be finished. Keep watching this space. 😊

Culture Studies

This week in Culture Studies, we continued to learn about Greek culture, focusing on Greek mythology. All students learnt the meaning of a myth and how the Greek gods and goddesses began. We looked at several gods and goddesses such as: Zeus, Poseidon, Hera, Hestia and Demeter, Hades, and later on Apollo, Artemis, Hermes, Athena, Aphrodite and Ares. Foundation and year 1/2 students made Greek gods and goddesses paper finger puppets. Year 3 to 6 students looked at the various qualities of each god and goddesses from that, they were able to  make a little book about Greek gods and goddesses. Early finishes were able to play a board game or make a board game about Greek gods and goddesses.

PE

Last week in PE we finished off our cricket unit with some minor games which focussed on batting, fielding and team work. The game ‘rapid fire’ is a fast paced game that requires all students to work together to stop the batting team from scoring runs. The kids were so excited to help each other get the balls back to their starting positions. We also had a run out game which saw one team running and throwing to try and run out the opposing teams batsmen. It was a great way to finish the cricket sessions.

Also the preps and the grade 3-6s were provided with a one off soccer session from a local soccer group. This was a fun and engaging session that everyone was excited to participate.

This week students started a basketball lesson. The focus on this was ball handing, bouncing and dribbling the ball. The students were able to pick up the skills quickly and there was some significant improvement from the start of the lesson to the end with some key teaching points provided.

Bike Education

Also students in grade 3-6 continued their Bike Education programs. We have been doing skills and safety lessons on the netball courts and progressed to riding on the nearby footpaths and ovals at Le Page Park. Bike riding is a great sport and one students can do for the rest of their lives and it is great to see the students enthusiastically participating in the lessons and each activity.

This week the grade 5/6 students started riding on the footpaths and finished with a lap around the local area on the roads. Everyone did a great job supporting each other and riding safely. The 5/6 students are riding to get ready for their ‘Big Ride Out’ coming up on December 7th.

Health

For Health, students continued to learn about different body parts. Last week students looked at the muscular system and digestive systems, and this week looked at the tongue and immune systems. Students were very interested to see how their bodies fight off infections and issues when they feel sick. They also were able to understand why they get so tired when they are sick as their immune system is fighting a battle inside their bodies to get them back to normal.
