Fabulous 5/6

Grade 5/6

A Note from the Teacher

As the year slowly comes to an end, we are dealing with some tired and anxious children in this class. We have nerves about the challenges next year and this is being reflected in everyone’s behaviour and attitude. For the last three weeks there is going to be a real focus on how we talk to one another and how we can show some empathy and kindness. We want everyone finishing this year with positive memories, not tears or anger.

Big Day Out is locked in for the 8th of December for our Year 6’s at Bounce Keysborough (The form went home today, look out for it,) and the Big Bike Ride is on Wednesday the 7th. So we have some really fun days to look forward to.

In the last two weeks, our space projects and preparations for the big Space Expo have been incredible. We are working in groups, making posters, PowerPoints, speeches, dioramas, models and many other cool things. Our Space Expo will take place on Monday, the 5th of December, and we will be joined by the 34s who are doing their own displays and stalls.

We have also continued doing Bike Ed. We started by practising riding on the netball courts, but have now progressed to riding around the neighbourhood, both on the footpath and on the road. All of this is to get us ready for our Big Bike Ride to Mordialloc Pier on the 7th of December. Everybody is getting really excited for it.

Every Friday, we have been competing in a two team Le Page World Cup. These soccer matches are really fun, and we are burning some energy whilst spending time outdoors. We will see whose team will take the championship in the end, Mister D’s or Sam’s.

In Maths, we learned about angles, and we also went over area and permitter again. In Writing, we are working on our creative stories, and talked about different character and story archetypes with our student teacher Mister Lyndon.

Sadly, Mister Lyndon had his last day with us this week on Wednesday. We are so grateful for all the wonderful lessons we had with him and hope to see him again!
