Parish News

St Mel’s Parish is a welcoming and caring community that helps all people grow stronger in our Catholic faith!

St Mel’s Parish Prayer

God our Father,

Bless our Parish so that we may love you more.  Encircle our families with your loving care.  Help parents to be good examples to their children and our youth to grow in strength as good Christians. To the sick, grant health. To the aged, bring serenity and to those in sorrow, joy. May we grow stronger in faith and may our love for one another become deeper in our daily living.

Amen

Help and talent needed for parish celebration

The Parish Pastoral Council’s plans are well under way for our community celebration, Christ the King, to be held on Sunday, November 20, but we need your help please! Do you have any traditional cultural talents to share? Dancing, singing or other performances? Do you have any symbols to show, for example a flag or costume? We would love to hear from you.

We are also asking for food offeringsfrom our parishioners to cater for the event. A variety of delicious cuisines to celebrate our many cultures is needed. Savoury dishes and sweets welcome.

If you are able to bring a food offering or a plate to share on the day, or have a symbol or talent, please email Xavier Tanner: xaviertanner25@gmail.com or phone 0409 388 845, or phone the parish office during opening hours on 5831 2194. Thank you.

Invitation to celebrate World Youth Day

Bishop Shane Mackinlay is inviting all young people aged 15-35 from across the Diocese of Sandhurst to gather at Our Lady, Mother of God Church, in Wangaratta South on Saturday, November 19 from 1:00pm – 9:00pm, for the annual Diocesan World Youth Day celebration.

Christian initiation inquiry evening to be held

I have recently received a strong expression of interest from a mother of children who herself wants to make a journey to Easter for 2023. If anyone knows of another who is seeking an understanding of our Catholic faith, an inquiry evening will take place on Sunday, October 30, at 7:00pm in the gathering room at the parish house, 18 Hamilton St, Shepparton. There will be another inquiry evening on Sunday, November 6, at 7:00pm. Here’s hoping we may have some potential candidates for Easter next year.
