Annual Report to School Community

The 2021 Annual Report to the School Community report has now been finalised by DET and our School Council President. Consequently, it will be placed on the school’s website for the wider school community to access if need be.

School Operations

Many of you will be aware through the media that there is currently a huge teacher staffing shortfall across the country and the state. Schools in Melton, and us included, have felt this enormously as we continue to struggle backfilling teacher illness and teacher movement. Thankfully at this stage we have just managed to minimise the impact onto the teaching program but this has not been easy, with many teachers teaching above their maximum allotment. It is only through the goodwill of the College’s staff that we continue to operate and not have to close as others in our area have had to.

I want to take a moment to thank and acknowledge the incredible work that our teachers, school leaders and support staff, have contributed so far this year in supporting the College and its students and families. Their efforts in these challenging times have been outstanding and are greatly appreciated by all.

NAPLAN

Our Years 7 & 9 students have finalized their NAPLAN tests in both Literacy and Numeracy. Our students completed the NAPLAN tests online this year. NAPLAN Online uses an adaptive test design, which presents questions that better match student achievement levels and provide more precise results for teachers and schools. We look forward to seeing the outcome of these tests.

Facility upgrade

The refurbishment of the Science and Food Technology wing has now been finalized. We have been using the building extensively since the start of term.

I want to publicly acknowledge the staff and students of the school for the patience and support. Feedback received from staff and students has been very positive and very much worth all the complexity that we have experienced over the last 6 months.

I also want to take this opportunity to specifically thank our Business Manager, Renay Moulton, and our recently retired Assistant Principal, David Veale, for their work and contribution in overseeing this project. Renay in particular did an outstanding job overseeing the day to day operations of the project and bringing it well within budget.

Athletics Carnival

The Annual Athletics Carnival in the last week of term was very successful. I was very pleased to see many Year 7 to 11 students participating and encouraging their teams to do well. It was also quite evident that both students and staff had a very good day supporting their team and getting into the spirit of the day.  I would like to acknowledge Mr Liam Green, who organised the event with the support of the HAPE team and all the staff who contributed to the organisation and supervision on the day.

Congratulations also goes to the Lang House team for their wonderful effort in winning the event. You might recall they also had won the Swimming Carnival at the beginning of the year. Well done.
