SPOTLIGHT ON: FLOWER ENVY FLORIST

Julie is a parent of LPPS students Charlotte 4/19 and Jaxson 3/25.  This fortnight we wanted to celebrate the part she plays in our local community in more detail.  Here is what Julie had to tell us about how she became the successful local Langwarrin florist she is today!

I grew up running around a flower farm on Thompsons Rd and Potts Rd, while my Nan picked and grew flowers.

She was well known for the best Christmas Lilly’s.

My Mum had a florist shop at tower hill before I was born. (Where the fish and chip shop is now). When I was 15-16 years old I would always help out and worked on Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day at the florist/nursery on Cranbourne Rd near Lang Park Medical Centre, there was only two lanes back then and now that’s showing my age!

In year 10 I did work experience at two florists. House of Heather Hill and Somerville Florist and I really enjoyed it.

Once I finished year 12 I paid for myself to do a tafe course at Boxhill Tafe, we had to do work experience and that's how I got my apprenticeship at FIG in Mount Eliza. I was there for 6 years - plus worked at the Bloomroom in Mornington for a couple of years and run a florist Seaford and Patterson Lakes. I always did friends weddings from home.

When the kids started at school I wanted full time work but there was nothing going so I started Flower Envy Florist and haven’t looked back after 4 years now.
