Teaching and Learning

Returning from school holidays, teachers have placed a priority on re-establishing classroom routines and having a high expectation on learning. Our whole school curriculum priorities for this term include:

  1. Teacher engagement with whole school instructional model (the organisational structure of a Numeracy and Literacy session).
  2. Students being involved in regular small group explicit teaching sessions (reciprocal reading and small group reading sessions)
  3. Teachers working in their PLC teams to ‘unpack the curriculum’, to identify what is essential, important and nice to know.
  4. Teachers embedding strategies from Berry St Training- circle time and explicit teaching of the THRIVE curriculum.

NAPLAN has been conducted this week for all our Grade 3 and 5 students. For the first time as a school, NAPLAN has been completed online. Our Assistant Principal, Mrs Kym Gilchrist, has done a magnificent job at coordinating this and working with our Grade 3 and 5 teams in preparation for this testing period.

School Parent Concern and Complaint Policy

Having a strong and trusting relationship with your child's teacher is so important. At different times you may have a concern about your child that you wish to raise. When this is needed, our school's policy is as follows:

  1. Always start with your child's teacher to initially raise the concern. Arrange a time to meet with them. Please do not have this discussion at school drop off or pick up time, because our teachers have meetings before and after school during the week and other commitments.
  2. If after meeting with your child's teacher and having necessary interventions put in place (based around the concern), you are able to arrange an appointment with a Principal Class Officer (PCO). The first question we will always ask, is whether your concern has been flagged with the class teacher. If it hasn't, in most cases it will be referred directly back to the teacher.
  3. If after a conversation with a PCO and necessary interventions have been put place and you are still not satisfied that your concerns have been heard/managed to your liking, you can contact South Eastern Metropolitan Region to raise your concern with them.

Our commitment at Langwarrin Park Primary School is focused on building positive and trusting relationships and where we can work through any concerns in a positive and respectful manner.

2023 Transition Program

We have been highly proactive in engaging with our local kinders and early childhood centres in the Langwarrin area. Kate Mowat has been amazing, in liaising with our kinders. We had our first school tour last Friday morning and we have a number coming up in the next few weeks. In the first block of tours we have had a large number of prospective families attend our first couple of tours which have been very positively received.

Please spread the word in your social networks to any friends you might know, whose kids are starting school next year.

2023 enrolments are now open. If you have a child starting school next year, make sure you come and collect your enrolment form from our school office.

Education Week:  School Open Night

To celebrate Education Week, on Wednesday 25th May from 5.30-6.30pm, we will be having a school open night. We warmly invite all our parents and carers to  this whole school event. All classrooms will be open, showcasing student work and the PCO team will be doing a Q & A session in the library for 2023 prospective school families. Check out the Open Night section of his newsletter for all the details.

Official School Facebook Page

Recently we launched our official school Facebook Page.  The purpose of our official Facebook page will be to celebrate and acknowledge all the wonderful things that happen across our great school. We will be updating our school's media consent form, so you can provide consent for your child's image to be placed on our Facebook page. We will keep you informed about this.

Class Dojo will remain as our primary internal communication tool, to keep you updated with whole school reminders.

To find our school Facebook page just type in @lpps5257 into your search box.

Grade 6 Camp

Next Wednesday, our Grade 6s are heading off on their camp to, 'The Summit', in Trafalgar East. This is an amazing camp experience, where all our students will be put outside their comfort zone in a highly fun way.

I will be in attendance at this camp and am really looking forward to spending some quality time with the Grade 6 group.

Student Free PPD Day

Just a reminder we have a student free staff Professional Practice Day on Monday 23rd May.

I would like to thank everyone for your ongoing support. I always appreciate the informal conversations out in the playground before and after school, to catch up on how things are going.

Take care everyone.

Richard
