On Friday 13 May, Year 9 students involved in the Business and Entrepreneurship and Food Technology business venture received $20 each to fund their seed business. Students have been working hard on numerous activities, including writing marketing plans, creating Instagram accounts, testing recipes, and are getting ready to launch their advertising campaigns, finishing with Shark Tank pitches to the Senior Leadership Team this coming Friday! Pre-order forms will be available from Student Services this week, so make sure you take advantage of special prices available for a limited time only.
Our Year 12 Business class travelled to Event Cinemas Chermside to gather primary data for their IA3 assessment task. Students heard presentations from the General Manager and Area Manager about the history of the business, the impact of COVID-19 on the cinema industry and their plans for the future in relation to competition and repositioning. A tour of the back of house operations and a 4DX experience completed what was a wonderful excursion for our students.
On Thursday 12 May, students had the opportunity to engage in a ‘Building History’ activity as part of the English and Humanities Department’s Lunch in the Forum series. These events provide opportunities for interested students to experience and explore English and Humanities subjects outside of the classroom. Thursday’s activity allowed students to engage with people and places they have studied or will study in Social Science subjects in a creative, fun way. Students were provided with Lego, play-doh and plasticine in order to build their own historical replicas. Students recreated Stonehenge, the Pyramids of Giza and even the faces of Churchill and Stalin with impressive creativity!
On Thursday 5 May, we celebrated all things Mathematics. A combined Pi Day and Maths Day for students in Years 7 to 12 ensured all students could say they had some fun with maths that day. Dr. Cousins, Ms. Mohan and Ms. Monnickendam kindly offered their faces for the pie-throwing competition. There was much laughter and much mess! Students also enjoyed a meat pie after reciting as many places of the mathematical constant pi (π) as they could.
Save the date for this year's Fun Run. More information coming soon.
