New - Tatura Blue Light Disco

After a 2 year hiatus due to covid, we have our first Blue Light Disco coming up on Friday 3rd June.

Our volunteers have worked hard to bring this much loved event back to life for the kids. 

The Blue Light Disco is a supervised, drug and alcohol free event run by dedicated volunteers and local police.

We look forward to welcoming you to this event.

New - Books for Lismore

Catholic Education Sandhurst are collecting library-worthy books for the flood devastated Lismore schools.

If you have books that your family has outgrown and would like to donate them to this cause, please send them to the school office.

New - Water Week

Goulburn Valley Water invites primary students to participate in the Our Water Stories Puzzle Competition.

Students will be provided with a free wooden jigsaw puzzle for decorating with the theme Our Water Stories. Artwork will be judged in four different categories: P/1/2, Gr 3/4, Gr 5/6 and Inclusive.  

There is a limit of 6,000 participants, so be quick to register to avoid missing out. Puzzles will be delivered before the end of Term 2.

Students will be able to take their puzzle home after the competition is judged.

Theme: Our Water Stories

This year's National Water Week theme is Our Water Stories. Students are encouraged to draw the cover of a story book on their puzzle. The story is to be a water related.

Instructions will be provided with the delivery of puzzles. There will also be details about a writing competition for students that would like to write a story to go with their puzzle. 

Judging

Judging will take place at the end of Term 3, from the 29th August - 16th September.

Please support the judges by following these steps:

·         Include student's full name and exact grade on their puzzle

·         Select finalist (max 10 in each category)

·         Put finalists on display in the school by 26th August

·         Display finalists in categories (P/1/2, Gr 3/4, Gr 5/6 & Inclusive)

·         Ensure office staff are aware of display location

Each school will receive a small prize and certificate for their winner in each category. Those winners will then be in the running to win major prizes.

Overall winners will be announced during Water Week, 17-23 October 2022.

New - Aquamoves coloring Competition

Aquamoves is running a coloring competition featuring ‘Walter the Watch around Water dog’.

 

The aim of the competition is to make students of swimming lessons aware of Water safety and importance of swimming lessons.

The colouring comp will start on the 30th of May and end on the 13th of June.

Coloring sheet is attached below. 

Once coloured in and details are filled out, all the students/parents need to do is hand it in to the front desk of Aquamoves before June 13th for them to be in the running to win a prize pack.

The filled in colourings will be displayed around the centre, excluding the name section, which will not be displayed to retain privacy.

We have 4 age groups for prize packs consisting of a Kids town VIP train pass,

sporting goods, promotional material, children’s book, Funkita and Aquamoves material.

Age Groups:

12 months to 3 years

4 years to 6 years

7 years to 10 years

11 years +

New - Public Lecture - 'Getting Back into Life post COVID'

The Department of Rural Health, University of Melbourne invite you to attend a public lecture by Dr Andrew Wake ‘Get a Life! – What you can (and cannot) do to help your child get back into life post COVID on Wednesday 8th June commencing at 5:30pm. 

 Do you worry about your child? Are you concerned about their development and your contribution as a parent? Andrew will provide a basic understanding of motivation and share his knowledge on what parents can do to create change while their kids are dependent on them.  Andrew is the author of the highly praised parenting book, The 'Good Enough' Parent: How to provide for your child's social and emotional development'. He is due to release his second book 'When you're the adult in the room' a book for teachers to add to their confidence and understanding and managing emotions, behaviours and relationships in students.

GREATER SHEPPARTON WINTER NIGHT SHELTER

The Winter Night Shelter will provide food & shelter for homeless men during June, July & August 2022 at 7 different Church Venues.

St. Mary’s & Mooroopna Uniting Church will provide this service for our guests (homeless men) on TUESDAY nights at ARDMONA COMMUNITY COMPLEX, Lenne Rd, Ardmona.

WE URGENTLY NEED VOLUNTEERS for the following tasks -

  • To provide & serve an evening meal 6.30 pm - 10 pm
  • To stay overnight from 10 pm-7 am.
  • Prepare Breakfast and clean up 7am – 9am Wednesday
  • Bus drivers to drive guests from Salvation Army Shepparton to Ardmona and return them to Shepparton Wednesday morning. - We have a driver who can bring the guests to Ardmona on Tuesday nights but not Wednesday morning.  This would need to be someone who could go to Shepparton and drive the bus & trailer to Ardmona and return the guests to Shepparton on Wednesday. The bus would need to be at Ardmona at 8 am.

Their Care - After School Care is being run from Mooroopna Park Primary School.  

They offer a variety of activities and outdoor play. The children will have afternoon tea offered to them during the program.

Berry Street in Shepparton are holding a Supporting Parents after Separation program. The program  assists separated parents in conflict to gain an understanding and knowledge in:

  •  Navigating the challenges of their separation
  • Understanding how conflict affects a child’s development
  • Developing effective co-parenting communication strategies
  • Developing safe-care strategies / Mindfulness
  • Effective co-parenting in a child focused manner
  • Managing their parenting arrangements

The program is FREE and offered to parents who are separated or going through a separation. The program can be completed over Zoom or face to face at the Shepparton Office. Parents can self-refer using the below  online link, and an information flyer is attached.

St  Mary's Mooroopna - Ball Committee

The St. Mary’s Ball committee has been running for some forty years.

We have one Ball each year with 18- to 20 Debs.  

At this stage, we are looking for a person to join our small committee.  It is usually only for a 8 - to 10 week period each year in preparation for the Ball.  We have someone to train the Debs and their partners. But unfortunately if we do not get help on the committee the Debutante ball in 2023 will not go ahead.

Saver Plus

SAVER PLUS UPDATE:  

  • In Shepparton and Surrounds since 2003, 1,097 participants have joined Saver Plus.
  • During COVID 19,  77 Shepparton participants have joined Saver Plus.
  • The application to join can be completed over the phone or online.
  • The workshop activities can be completed online.

Saver Plus is a financial education program where participants save $500 and have their savings matched $1 for $1 up to $500. 

Saver Plus can assist eligible parents to pay for education costs, such as uniforms, books, laptops, and sports fees. Saver Plus can also increase financial knowledge with workshops that provide budgeting and savings tips.
