Reconciliation Week "Be Brave. Make Change!"
We started Reconciliation Week with a very reflective Sorry Day liturgy at school last Thursday. Our Aboriginal choir sang beautifully and our FIRE Carriers did a wonderful job leading the ceremony.
The FIRE Carriers, Mrs Dyke, Marissa and myself then attended the local Sorry Day ceremony in Shepparton where local dignitaries and school students took part. Aunty Ella Anselmi (grandmother of Riley Atkinson Gr 1) spoke about the heartbreaking stolen generation experience of her brothers being taken from her family when she was a young girl. It was a very powerful story and a reminder of how important it is for us all to acknowledge this tragic part of our nations history.
On Friday we are holding a breakfast for our Aboriginal families and Mrs Dyke will be sharing some photos of her recent trip to Lake Mungo (a significant Aboriginal site)
Later in the day the school will march together for our Reconciliation Week rally under this year's theme "Be Brave. Make a Change". All students are asked to wear red, black and yellow for the march.
Thank you to Mrs Dyke, our Indigenous education leader for organising such wonderful Reconciliation Week activities.
Congratulations to the children who recently made their First Eucharist. It is a very special time for themselves and their families.
Tonight we have a number of children making their First Reconciliation. We wish them every blessing on this significant night for them all.
