Update on Repairs to Admin Building & Library

As you may be aware, on Tuesday morning we had a small fire outside of the school buildings at the lost property area. This has caused damage to our Admin and Library building. We have a team of contractors from the Department of Education working with us to repair the areas and we hope to be back in them by next week.

In the meantime, we ask that families refrain from entering the school via gate 1 and the admin building (front office). If you need to collect your child early throughout the day, please access the school via gate 2 (water tank).

We will continue to keep the community informed of the progress made via Compass.

Introducing our New Acting Assistant Principal

We would like to introduce you to our new Acting Assistant Principal, Adrienne Maisano. Adrienne is an experienced teacher who comes to us from the Department of Education’s Differentiation School Support Initiative Team. We are excited to welcome Adrienne to our team and look forward to working with her when she begins next week. Please see below to find out a bit about Adrienne.

Hi everyone, I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Adrienne Maisano and I am thrilled to be joining the team at North Melbourne Primary School as an Acting Assistant Principal. I am deeply committed to the success and development of the school and am looking forward to meeting you all over the coming weeks.

Over the past few years, I have worked within the Education Department, consulting schools to strategically plan and deliver professional learning for teachers. Prior to that, I had the pleasure of being a part of the team who opened South Melbourne Primary School.

In my own time, I love to travel, bake and surround myself with delicious food. I am always keen for a chat, and love learning about other people’s experiences and passions so if you see me around, don’t hesitate to come and say hello.

2021 Annual Report to the School Community

The Annual Report to the School Community provides principals and school councils with an opportunity to share the year’s achievements and progress with the school community. This includes reflecting on the school’s performance and explaining the positive impact of school improvement efforts on student outcomes.

Our 2021 Annual Reporting Community Meeting will be held at 5:30 pm on Thursday 16th June. If you would like to attend this meeting either virtually or in person, please register your interest via this link.

National Reconciliation Week

By Prep D students

This week is National Reconciliation Week with the 2022 theme being “Be Brave. Make Change.” At NMPS, students have engaged in a range of activities to acknowledge both National Reconciliation Week and National Sorry Day which took place last Thursday 26th May. Please take some time to see some of the students’ responses to this important historical time.

We know at NMPS, we will continue to learn, empathise, and act in support of reconciliation.

Education Week Recap

Last week was the 78th Education Week celebrated in Victoria and the 150th year that public education has existed as an incorporated body. At NMPS we acknowledged this occasion with Open Classroom events across the school. Parents and carers were welcomed into our classrooms to see student learning in action. This was a wonderful opportunity for families to share learning experiences and see the great work students are doing in their classrooms.

Thank you to all the families that visited.

Staff Shortages Continue

At the end of Week 4 we shared the news about the shortage of Casual Relief Teachers (CRTs) reported across the state. Unfortunately, here at NMPS, we are still experiencing the direct impact of this.

We continue to work very hard to cover staff absences with CRTs or internal staff, however, there may at times be an increase in grade splits over the coming weeks to ensure adequate supervision of all students. We apologise for this interruption to the normal routine, however, we can assure you your child will continue to receive the same high standard of education across all classrooms, regardless of grade splits or casual relief teachers. We again thank you for your understanding.

Whole School Professional Practice Day

We would like to remind families that the Professional Practice Day for staff at NMPS is Friday 10th June. Students will not be required to attend school on this day.

Biz-E-Kidz (BEK) will provide a service for students if required. Please contact the BEK team for further information.

New Drop off and Pick up Zones Update

You may have seen the Compass posts and received flyers regarding the upcoming changes to our parking bays at North Melbourne Primary School. Work will commence on these changes soon, and we hope to implement the safer drop-off and pick-up zones before the end of this term once work has been completed.

Please watch out for further Compass posts regarding the implementation of the new zones.

Many thanks to our Parents and Friends Association for the coordination of our successful Bake Sale held on Election Day. We extend our appreciation to all the parents (and students) who volunteered their time either baking or helping out on the day.

New Campus - School Art Project

As part of our program to help students learn more about our new campus, Mel and Rose are planning a special art activity in collaboration with the Victorian School Building Authority's project team.

As part of the process, our students will be learning about the different types of indoor and outdoor spaces, and the range of ways the campus considers the local environment and sustainability. The activity will involve contributions from all students and we look forward to sharing further updates later this term.
