Co-curricular - Junior Sport

On Sunday, I was fortunate enough to take my family to a NSW Swifts netball game. It was the first time that my daughters had been to a live game, only becoming recent fans of netball. The game was an amazing spectacle. The speed and agility of the players was awe inspiring and the atmosphere was electric. The game ended with the Swifts losing by one point. What struck me the most throughout the game was how my daughters reacted to the entire match. They cheered and got themselves fully immersed in the game. They were always supportive of their team and spoke only positively of all the players efforts. At the end of the game, the loss seemed irrelevant to them. They were just proud that their team, the Swifts, had played so well and done their best.

This reminded me of the reason why we all love sport. Why we play it and encourage our boys to be involved. At times, it is hard to get past a bad call or a loss for our team. We can get caught up in the negative. But, if we switch our focus and choose the positive, everything else becomes irrelevant. We can be happy with the fact that we did our best, played the game and in the end, it was fun.

As we head into the final weeks of Term 2 and Semester 1 of the year, there are many events taking place for the boys in the Junior School. Founder’s Day this Friday, reports will go home soon; followed by Parent Teacher Interviews and to round off the term, the Junior School House Athletics Carnival to be held on Breen Oval. In an effort to streamline the Co-curricular information for boys and their families, please see the table below:

All boys are reminded to check the information in their classrooms for trial times, dates, and venues for the upcoming House Athletics Carnivals. This information is also available on TeamApp, on the documents page. Nominations for these events are closed and no late nominations will be accepted. Please have boys see me if there have been extenuating circumstances, such as prolonged illness, at the time of nominations.

Over the course of last week, 2 Junior School boys, Levi Berbari and Lewis Massih represented the CIS team in Basketball in Tamworth. The CIS team played extremely well, going through each  round undefeated and were able to win their way through to the final. In a tough game with Sydney North, the CIS team got out to a strong lead. In the final minutes, Sydney North was able to close the gap to only a few baskets but overall, the CIS team held their nerve and came out the victors. An amazing effort by the CIS team and our boys; congratulations to both Levi and Lewis on an outstanding team performance.

Currently, there are a number of boys absent from sport training and games due to illness. Please make sure that you send an email to either me or your son’s class teacher to inform us of their absence from training or Saturday games. Likewise, if you wish to have your son leave training early, an email must be sent prior to the training day seeking an application for leave.

This week, we have four students competing in the CIS Cross Country Carnival. We wish Mason Portolesi, Archie and Charlie Ackland and Micah Camilleri all the best for their 3KM run at Sydney Motorsport Park. We look forward to hearing of your experiences.
