Last week, your son should have collected a letter detailing information about the trip to Bathurst. It is the College’s expectations that all rugby players will attend except for those in the 13 D team. (Please note some students will be required to join the 13 Cs to ensure the team has an adequate number of substitutes). A friendly reminder to those wishing to catch the bus - permission slips are to be returned to Mr Rowlings by this Thursday 9 June.

All would be aware that the College policy states:

“Players who are injured during the course of the season are to attend and support at all of their team’s Saturday fixtures that take place in the Sydney Metropolitan Area, while they are unable to play.”

Given the College has organised a bus to assist families to transport students, should your son be injured and unable to play, he too will be required to attend and support his team’s fixture.

Should any family question their son’s ability to fulfil this commitment, a written ‘request for leave’ should be addressed to Mr Fochesato and to me at your earliest convenience.

Winter Sport Training Arrangements for the end of Term 2

Due to the long weekend, there are no fixtures scheduled to take place this Saturday 11 June. Teams will continue to train as per normal except for Friday 10 June, where no training will take place as the College engages in its annual Founder’s Day celebrations.

Training sessions will go ahead as per schedule for the remainder of term for all teams up to and including Wednesday 22 June. All students engaged in winter sport will participate in their team’s first training session only in Week 9 of Term 2.

Winter sport training will resume upon students’ return to school on the first day of Term 3, Tuesday 19 July.

Congratulations

The College wishes to acknowledge the following students for their outstanding achievements over the last week in their respective sports:

Dylan Parks (Year 11): Over the weekend Dylan completed at the Rock Climbing and Bouldering National Youth Selections in his quest to be chosen for the Australian Youth team. Dylan’s results across the three disciplines were as follows for Youth A Male:

  • Speed – National Champion (1st Place in a Personal Best time)
  • Boulder – National Champion (1st Place)
  • Lead – 4th Place.

It is with great pleasure we congratulate Dylan for achieving his goal, finishing the selections ranked number one and crowned National Champion. Dylan will have the honour of wearing the green and gold at the World Youth Championships in Dallas, Texas in August.

Anthony del Popolo (Year 9) and Vincent Pappalardo (Year 7): Both Anthony and Vincent did extremely well, representing the College and the NSW CIS team at the NSW All Schools Diving Championships last Sunday 5 June.

Anthony won two silver medals in the 15 Years Platform and Springboard events, whilst Vincent won a gold medal in the 12 Years Springboard event and a bronze medal for the 12-14 Years Platform event.

These outstanding results will see both boys progress to representing the NSW team at the Australian All Schools Diving Championships in Brisbane later this year.

Founder's Cup - First XI vs Old Boys

Last week saw the annual Founder’s Cup football fixture between the SPC First XI and the SPC Old Boys’ Football Club take place. Given the successful start to the season from the current First XI, we knew this would be a good opportunity to test ourselves against bigger and tougher opposition. It was a tense and tight affair to begin, with not much splitting the two sides. However, the SPC First XI broke the deadlock midway through the first half with a wonderful shot from outside the box. In the second half, the First XI continued to play their possession-based game, proving too strong for the opposition as the half wore on, adding four more goals to the total, and came away with a convincing victory.

This game was a great opportunity for us to come together as a football family and recognise the amount of skill, talent and camaraderie that is evident in the current football fraternity and within the Old Boys club. On behalf of all the players, I would like to thank everyone involved in making the afternoon the success that it was, and sincerely appreciate all the students, staff and supporters that came out to cheer both teams on. I look forward to seeing the continuation of this famous fixture into the future.
