During this fortnight, the children have been undertaking learning in the following areas:
Reading
Reading traditional stories, including The Enormous Turnip, The Three Billy Goats Gruff and The Three Little Pigs and then retelling these stories through dramatisations and role play using props and puppets
Writing
Drawing with a wide variety of materials, including pencils, textas, grey leads, oil pastels. Children practicing writing their names. Children identifying the letters of the alphabet and identifying the first letter of their name
Maths
Exploring the concepts of heavy and light using scales
Continuing to familiarise themselves with numbers from 1 to 10 in their printed form
Science
Developing an understanding of trial and error, problem solving and hypothesising as they determine how to create a bridge from an assortment of sticks and small cardboard tubes for the 3 Billy Goats to use to cross the river to reach the grass
Inquiry
Continuing to broaden the range of mediums through which the children can use to express their thoughts and understandings. Introducing sewing and wire for the children to use to create pictures with; box construction; construction with wood off cuts and cardboard tubes
Exploring how illustrations in books and art works can be used to tell a story. Encouraging the children to consider ‘how the piece makes them feel?’, ‘what story is the artist/illustrator telling us?’
Expanding on our skills in working with clay as we learn how to make pinch pots and to use slip to join pieces of clay together
Social & emotional learning
Developing a range of strategies to assist the children in moving from different zones to the green zone
Supporting the children in their interactions with one another to help them develop strategies to resolve conflict with their peers
