Students and staff have well and truly settled into Term 2. We thank families for their support of students in this busy term.
Thank you to all parents and students who engaged so positively in our Parent Teacher Interview process. The decision to move to an online format proved popular, with a record number of families making interviews to speak with teaching staff.
We understand that this format does not work for everyone and we also appreciate that despite our best efforts, not every family can find a booking time with every staff member with whom they wish to speak. Some of our staff teach well over 100 students and find themselves booked out within days of Parent Teacher interviews opening.
Considerable time and thought goes into planning these Parent Teacher interviews, as we find the balance between managing a teacher’s time out of the classroom (and the disruption to class teaching) and devoting enough time to this invaluable process. We welcome your feedback as to the process we currently have in place so that we can best support open communication between the College and families.
Finally, we encourage our students to be a part of this process. Their participation in interviews is a powerful opportunity to reflect on their learning. We hope to see more students attending our interviews in Semester 2.
In recent weeks, our Year 7 & 9 students have completed NAPLAN in reading, writing, language and numeracy. We congratulate our students for the positive manner in which they engaged with the process. Results of the tests are reported back to the College and sent to families in Term 3.
Here at Academy, we are committed to the ongoing learning journey of our staff, as well as our students. You will be aware from previous newsletters that our staff have been working with Educational Neuroscientist, Dr Jared Cooney Horvath. In 2020, we also had the pleasure of working with Performance and Leadership Coach, Dan Haesler. In recent weeks, Dan Haesler interviewed Dr Cooney Horvath on his podcast, Habits of Leadership. It is a fascinating conversation about the brain and learning.
