Leadership in Action

Over the last week, we have seen some powerful examples of servant leadership. Servant leadership is something at Calrossy that is more than an idea, it is a way of being and leading the way it is meant to be. This style of leadership is popular in Australian slang as we don’t like the “tall poppy”. Servant leadership is more than simply not bragging and boasting. As an Anglican school shaped by the teachings of Jesus, we take Jesus’ words seriously, “I did not come to be served, but to serve” (Mark 10:45). If the Son of God, the greatest leader of all, came to serve us, then we too should be willing to serve. Whether a student is an official leader or not. It was beautiful to see the new Year 6, 9 and 12 student leaders inducted last week and hear their promises in taking up this office. The timing of this was perfect as a lead into one of the leader’s first official duties with drumming up support (albeit in a slightly different way due to COVID restrictions) and House spirit at the swimming carnivals.

The swimming carnivals were a great success, it was fantastic to see the house spirit, participation and general enjoyment on display. This day always stands out as a cultural marker in our school, as older students encourage younger students to get in and have a go. All had a great day, and we look forward to building further this term with the upcoming Colour run and Cross Country events.

For all the results check out the sports page in this newsletter. Well done to these houses for a successful carnival, and we can't wait to see what the rest of the year brings.
