COVID Update

Dear Parents,

In 2022 we are learning to live with COVID-19. The reality is that Tamworth is experiencing between 100 and 200 new infections per day.

At Calrossy a small number of students and staff have become infected so far, many cases being detected early by regular Rapid Antigen testing. This week we have experienced some positive cases, nearly all in the Senior Secondary section, but including two Years 7 – 9 students and a Pre-Schooler. A small number of Boarders have recently tested positive and students who are Household Contacts, sharing a room, have been required to isolate.

It is encouraging that many of the cases experienced seem to have come from household contact or close involvement with others during weekend social activities. For this reason we continue to follow regulations that Secondary students wear masks (recommended for Primary) and taking extra care with hygiene and distancing at school events. I ask that parents support the weekly surveillance testing (Monday and Thursday) using the kits provided for all students.

Parents/carers should note this information, provided to Calrossy by NSW Health:

  • If anyone in your dweling contracts COVID, everyone else is required to isolate for seven days as a Household Contact. RAhTs on Day 5 and Day 7 are recommended.
  • When isolating, should a student contract COVID, (Boarding or day student), please notify the school via katya.thomas@calrossy.nsw.edu.au
  • It is law that positive cases are notified to Services NSW.
  • Any student with cold and flu symptoms may not attend school, even if COVID negative. If in doubt, take a PCR.
  • Students/Staff who have contracted COVID may return to school after seven days, if symptoms have subsided. No further test is required. Boarding, as a high risk environment, requires an additional three days from date of diagnosis.
  • Information on testing and procedures can found via https://www.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/stay-safe/testing/get-tested-for-covid-19#toc-download-pdf

Many of those who have contracted COVID this term have experienced relatively minor symptoms and have been well enough to return quickly. However, this is not universal and so as a community it is important that we manage the situation carefully, looking after those who are at greater risk. Your support and cooperation in this has been greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,
