Art Academy will resume on Wednesday 16 February in Art 1.

Art Academy is a place where interested and talented students of all ages take on bigger challenges and extend themselves.  Students who are part of Surf Coast Art Academy are offered opportunities to participate in artist talks and participate in special art-based projects. The focus of the art academy is on extending the skills of interested students whilst establishing strong friendships and relationships with the art department and fellow academy students that will last across an individual student’s years at Surf Coast Secondary College. Art Academy operates every second Wednesday (WEEK 1) in

Art 1, 3pm to 4.30pm.

Anyone interested in joining Art Academy is encouraged to visit the art room and talk to Susan Barlow in Art 1 at lunch or recess or send an email to susan.barlow-clifton@education.vic.gov.au

Year 12 2022

This year's Year 12 cohort got into the spirit of things whilst modelling their new personalised hoodies.  This is a privilege bestowed to our Year 12's for all of their hard work thus far and for their exciting year ahead.

Welcome to our New Year 7s

Welcome to all of our wonderful Year 7s for 2022.  The first day started with our new students meeting their teachers in an assembly which was held in our gymnasium.

Our Year 12 students later in the day gave a Surf Coast welcome to our new Year 7s by putting on a barbeque on the first day of school.

Introducing our 2022 Surf Coast Secondary College Captains

Name: Joely Aylen

Leadership Position: Vice Captain

Subjects studying this year in Year 12: English, Further Maths, History, Media and Psychology

What I love about SCSC: How independent students can be! I love that our teachers consistently show their support to students no matter how they learn. From Year 7 up until my final year of school, all of my teachers have been there for me, ready to tackle any hardships I may face and ready to assist me through my learning.

What I am looking forward to about being in the student leadership team: Being able to make the school community as inclusive and supportive as possible, while also inspiring younger students to put their hand up for leadership positions. SCSC is a school that embraces every student and enjoys their differences, so I want to continue enhancing this idea and help every student live up to their potential.

Hopes and dreams for the future: In the future I hope to study psychology, criminology and social work at University. I wish to continue living in Torquay while studying, but eventually plan to travel around Australia, working in Indigenous communities and small towns along the coast.

Name: Archie French

Leadership Position: College Captain

Subjects studying this year in Year 12: English, Maths Methods, Software Development, Chemistry, Physics

What I love about SCSC: I started at Surf Coast in Year 8 and have loved the school ever since. I love the opportunities that the school provides for every student, allowing each individual to pursue their goals, whether that be in academics, in the arts, in a sport or in a trade or vocational pathway. Surf Coast has an amazing leadership team, creating chances for students to change and evolve how the school works. Surf Coast has an amazing community of support, from students to teachers, everyone supports each other, creating an amazing family.

What I am looking forward to about being in the student leadership team: I am looking forward to assisting the school in getting back into the groove of the school year, after a heavily interrupted two years. We have a great leadership team this year and I believe we can work really well together to make a difference at the school.

Hopes and dreams for the future: I am looking forward to finishing Year 12 this year and moving into the world. I hope to go to university, in the science field, as that has always been my passion throughout my education.

Name: Hugo Bennie

Leadership Position: Vice-Captain

Subjects studying this year in Year 12:

Visual Communications, Media, Applied Computing, English, Further Maths

What I love about SCSC:
The culture here is unmatched compared to any of the other schools I have attended and I wouldn't leave it for the world, in addition to just how kind and understanding everybody within our school community is.

What I am looking forward to about being in the student leadership team:
Being able to give people who don't typically have a voice, someone they can go to who will listen and represent them throughout the year.

Hopes and dreams for the future:
Become a full-time designer and hopefully display an exhibit at a gallery.

Name: Melody Luke

Leadership Position: School Captain

Subjects studying this year in Year 12: Legal Studies, History Revolutions, Psychology, English, Further Maths

What I love about SCSC: The community here at Surf Coast is genuinely so incredible - from the students to the teachers. Because of this, I have met some of my best mates over the years, and I couldn’t be more grateful. But not only do I love the connections that I’ve been able to make, I truly love the continuous support and encouragement that is provided to the students here at SCSC.

What I am looking forward to about being in the student leadership team: The leadership team this year is honestly brilliant, and I can’t wait to see what we accomplish this year together. Something I would love to focus on is building up Surf Coast’s already stellar diverse and inclusive community, as well as reviving our school spirit after a tough couple years.

Hopes and dreams for the future: I’m mainly focusing on getting through this year, and am finding the thought of finishing school both daunting and extremely exciting, as the thought of transitioning into adulthood is something I am really keen for. In the future, I am would like to go to University to study Law, and hoping to end up with a career somewhere in that field.
