Recreation News

We are pleased to announce that Mrs Nicole Scott has accepted the position of Recreation Officer. We look forward to seeing all her great plans come to fruition over the term.  You can see Nicole’s bio in the Breaksea House section of the Staff Introductions. Nicole has worked in Breaksea House for many years and both her adult children are GSG graduates.

Recreation for each weekend will be shared via our parent team messenger group so that we can ensure all families have access to the schedule. We appreciate your support from home in encouraging your boarders to engage in our recreation program. In Middle School, we make some recreation compulsory to ensure our boarders keep moving and get outdoors. Research shows us the importance of young people being active and involved in their community. COVID may complicate our Recreation program, however we will do the very best we can to make sure our boarders are stimulated and active in boarding.

Over the first weekend, we arranged an Eyre Park visit with the senior boarders walking to Middleton Beach while the middle schoolers played basketball at the park. Orienteering was on the schedule for the Saturday and may have been more popular if Albany didn’t put on a 40 degree day. The weather for the first Sunday in boarding was glorious and students enjoyed a BBQ lunch at Emu Point.

Friday nights always offer the much anticipated gym session with Mr Jordan, where he is always planning something exciting. Last weekend our seniors went surfing and the senior girls were planning a picnic in the park which got washed out and mask making was on the craft agenda. The Brig Amity tour was on Sunday with Ms Nixon and golf with Mr Crabbe on Sunday also. Your support in encouraging your boarder to join in with recreation is greatly appreciated.
