Boarding Information

Town Leave

We would like to confirm the rules for boarders going into town.

  • Year Seven students need to stay within the Plaza area, which extends out to McDonalds, Aldi (when it opens) and the Dome only. They need to be in a group of three students in Year Seven and may only go once a week.
  • Year Eight students are allowed in a group of two and can go down York Street, also once a week.
  • From Year Nine onwards we are trusting them to go alone. We can be flexible with this, as sometimes they need to go to Officeworks or Spotlight to get equipment and then walk to Plaza for collection.
  • In the Middle Houses, we only let Years Seven and Eight boarders book to go to town for two hours on a Saturday and three hours for a Year Nine student.
  • The Senior students may go into town on their own and have more flexibility staying in town for shopping and lunch with friends etc.

Student Safety

Please remember, it is compulsory for students to wear helmets for bikes, scooters and in the cricket nets. No electric scooters or bikes are allowed.

Students are not to leave the school grounds without a staff member or host. Consequently, students are not to walk to the Lower King shops, the fish traps or harbour without a staff member.  Senior students, involved in specific sports or running training, may discuss their route with the Head of House.

Aerosols

We cannot allow aerosol deodorant to be used in the Houses, as they set off the fire alarm sensors and the Fire Brigade must attend every time our alarms sound. Last year the clever Breaksea boarders have come up with a solution. If they choose to, they can put their deodorant in the staff office and collect the aerosol when they need it and use it outside. They really like their spray deodorants!

Tools

We cannot allow students to have tools in their bedrooms, in the past some have used these to undo the screws on their security screens. We are happy to store these in the office for your child, they can then let the Supervisor know when they require them and return them afterwards.  Bullets, knives and other dangerous items are not permitted in boarding.

IT Hand-In Times

The Boarding IT hand-in times have not changed from last year.  Please find a copy of the times here, this will help you know when is a good time to contact your child.

Prep Schedules

We are currently finalising the boarding prep schedule and will share this with you soon. Once finalised, it will be available on MyGSG on both the Senior and Middle School pages along with the academic support schedule.

CCTV

Each of our boarding houses have CCTV cameras installed. Please find our policy here.

Flexischools

Each boarder has a school Flexischools account where they can place a canteen order once per week, on a pre-set day.  There can sometimes be a few teething problems at the commencement of the year, this can often come from when a boarder has a school account and a personal account and they are using the same email address for both.

It is fine for a boarder to have a personal account where they can order Flexischools on a day other than their pre-set boarding day, however can we please ask that if you are setting up a personal account for your child that you use a personal email address, not their school student email address. This would help us immensely.

Dry Cleaning

If you require your child's blazer or other items dry cleaned, we can arrange this for you. Please contact your Head of Boarding House.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any issues or concerns.
