HARVEY’S HIGHLIGHTS! WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING AT SPS?

WELCOME BACK EVERYONE 

It has been so awesome to see everyone back onsite and so settled into school. We have another great year planned at Somerville PS so I look forward to working with you all to ensure this year is an amazing year of fun and learning for your child/ren. WEEKLY UPDATES ON SENTRAL

Our ‘What’s Happening’ in each level will start coming out ready for week 3 to inform you of your child’s weekly learning. So you keep up to date with the information from around the school and in the classrooms make sure you check Sentral for these updates.

READING NIGHTS

Yes we are doing this again – we love to celebrate everyone reading at school. Reading night diaries will be coming home next week but you can backdate any reading you have done throughout January and so far in February. Don’t forget to come and show Mrs Harvey when you have read for 25 nights to get yourself up on our reading wall of fame and get a sticker! When you have read for 50, 100, 150, 200, 250 and 300 nights you will get a photo taken with our giant balloons. Remember for those of you who read and record 200 nights of reading this year you will receive a Somerville PS Golden Ticket. This ticket will give you access to a special ‘pizza party’ lunch in term 4. So don’t forget to keep up that reading and annoy your parents and carers so they sign your books to say you have read! We have a reading hall of fame in the foyer. How far can you climb on our wall?

I am asking every student what their goal for reading nights will be this year. There are so many that want to reach 200 nights – HOW AWESOME! Remember to get to 200 you have to read for 50 nights each term. This includes any reading you do or being read to by your parents or you can even read to your teddies – JUST READ! It all counts so start recording your nights so you can come to our party.

 SOMERVILLE STAR AWARDS

Congratulations to our super awesome Somerville Star Recipients this week. Well done for working hard and demonstrating our school values at all times!

22022022 – 2-2 day (tutu day)

Let’s have a bit of fun! On 22nd February it is an amazing number which is actually a palindrome. A palindrome is a word, number, phrase or other sequence of characters which reads the same backwards as forwards such as madam, Hannah, mum, dad, etc. We are going to have a fun day at SPS on 22nd February, 2022 as this date is a palindrome, 22022022. We want all of the kids to come dressed up celebrating 2-2 day. They can wear a tutu for the day (which was our original idea for everyone but some of the feedback from the students were they would not wear a tutu!!!!) so they can come dressed with 2 of something they wouldn’t usually wear (2 hats, 2 pairs of socks, 2 piggy tails, 2 gloves, 2 capes, 2 tops, etc or they can be creative with the number 2 in any way they want to. It is all about having fun by dressing up and doing some learning around this crazy number for the day. We look forward to seeing what you come up with – we are trying to get all teachers in tutus!!!! Could be interesting!!!!

DONATIONS OF LITTLE CARS

If anyone has any little cars, trucks, tractors, etc for our little car track they could donate that would be awesome. Please drop in at the office if you do – any donations would be much appreciated for our students to play with on our car track.
