School Bus Travel - Year 2 (Year 3 2020)

Applications for student travel in 2020 opened on Friday 11 October 2019.

Students progressing to Year 3 no longer need to re-apply if they:

  • are continuing at the same school
  • are residing at the same address
  • have not been sent an expiry notification from Transport for NSW.

Where a student meets the new distance eligibility, the system will automatically update their entitlement.  If they do not meet the new eligibility, they will receive an expiry notification via email.

Students who have an entitlement approved under a medical condition which is due to expire will receive a notification advising them to re-apply.

Term Bus Pass holders will receive a notification to re-apply.

If students need to update their information or re-apply, they should go online to https://apps.transport.nsw.gov.au/ssts/updateDetails

Applications need to be submitted before 31 December 2019 to ensure student entitlements are updated and their current entitlement/card is not cancelled.  If their application is submitted after 31 December 2019, the system will automatically cancel an entitlement/card and a new one will need to be issued.

Students in the Opal network applying for a SSTS or Term Bus Pass entitlement for the first time will receive their card at their nominated postal address. Cards will be mailed out from January 2020.

Students residing in Rural and Regional (R&R) areas should receive their travel pass at the commencement of the new school year from their nominated operator, this may be distributed via the school or sent direct to their address. Note: some R&R operators do not issue travel passes. Students/Parents should confirm with their nominated operator if they do not receive a pass.

Year 2 Excursion - Past in the Present

On Wednesday 20 November, Year 2 went on a fabulous excursion to learn more about our history unit 'Past in the present'.

The Museum was small but it sure held a lot!!

The first place we went was upstairs to take a close look at how the rooms in the past looked. They didn’t have running water so instead of using a toilet they used a bucket, and for a light, they used candles and lanterns. To keep warm they used a fire place.

Then we went to the family room. Back then they didn’t have computers and a TV so they entertained themselves by playing a board game. Also, most people played a very popular instrument, the piano.

After that we went to the old classroom to see the blackboard and the cane. The cane looked a bit like a bamboo stick. Soon we went outside to the farm equipment and to visit the laundry. Washing back then was very different to now. You would scrub the clothes for hours. You would also go around on horses instead of cars. There was also a blacksmith who made everything out of steal.

Finally we had recess at Market Square. Then we walked all the way to the cannons and the lighthouse . It was huge and the cannons made eco sounds, it was a marvelous view.  Finally we had lunch.

Overall it was a fantastic excursion.

SJB’s Got Talent 2019

Many students have been busy rehearsing and getting organised for their performances in class. Teachers have organised the day they will have their in-class performances. Please note that the In-Class Talent Showcase is a student only activity.  There is no expectation for students to perform, this is only meant to be an end of year fun activity.

Nominated acts from each class will then be invited to showcase their talent in front of the whole school and parents on Monday 9 December, Friday 13 December and Monday 16 December. The schedule for these performances will be sent home by the end of this week.

We are also inviting ‘WILDCARD’ performances to enter SJB’s Got Talent.  A wildcard performance will be an act that may include students from various grades performing together. Please note that we encourage children who are well rehearsed to request a WILDCARD entry.  Please contact Mr Aguilera if you would like more information or if you would like your child and their group to be considered for a ‘WILDCARD’ entry.
