Annual Parent Survey

Please consider completing the St Joseph's annual parent survey. This is a wonderful opportunity to both affirm staff in their work and to also give insights into areas for improvement.

When completing the survey it is important to consider each area across the year and your general impression or experience.

The survey can be accessed via the link below until Thursday 5 December.

What time can my child arrive at school in the morning?

The school gates open at 8:30am. Some very keen students are arriving a little too early for school and are unsupervised before 8:30am.  No student will be allowed to enter the gates outside the hall on Park Road before 8:30am. The only exception is in the case where one of the buses may arrive before that time.

If your child is riding a bike to school, parents may want to ensure children are not leaving home too early in their enthusiasm.  Last week some children were at school as early as 8:20am.

Please don’t put your own child at risk by leaving them on the street without adult supervision, even for just a few minutes. The school takes no responsibility for students who arrive early.  OOSH may be a better option.

Learning Leap into 2020

The classes for 2020 have now been finalised. Thank you to those parents who have made written requests, addressed to the Principal, regarding any information that may affect the placement of their child into a class for 2020. Wherever possible efforts have been made to accommodate concerns and requests. No further requests can now be considered.

Allocating students into classes for 2020 is a complex process and what may seem like a reasonable request for a parent, may have unintended consequences for your child or other students. The academic, social and emotional needs of all students are considered, and teachers have a very good knowledge of their students and how they operate in the learning environment.

Classes will be announced to students on Tuesday 17 December. I know that parents will understand that no requests for a change of class will be considered once announced. Changing classes will affect other students and create an imbalance across the grade.

Students will spend time in their new class on Tuesday 17 December and teachers are looking forward to meeting with their new students. This is an opportunity for students to take a Learning Leap into 2020.

School Bag

The St Joseph’s School Bag, with the school logo on it, became compulsory for Kindergarten students from 2018 onwards. This means that in 2020 all Kindergarten and Year 1 and Year 2 students must use the St Joseph's school bag.

While not yet compulsory for students in Years 3 to Year 6 in 2019, parents might like to consider the St Joseph’s schoolbag. The St Joseph’s school bag is available for purchase from the School Office.

Keeping Children Focused In Term 4

As this term progresses the children will become excited about the approaching Advent and Christmas seasons. It is very important that the children remain focused and settled throughout Term 4. When the children begin to bring Christmas cards, candy canes and the like to school too early they tend to ‘tune out’.

It is for this reason, and the fact that waiting is a part of our Catholic tradition within the season of Advent, that the children may begin to bring Christmas cards, candy canes etc. for their classmates from the beginning of Week 10 – Monday 16 December.
