Education in Faith
Prayer: Students will focus on prayer as a way of experiencing God.
Identity -Who is Jesus? Understanding the events and stories in Jesus’ Life.
Lent and Holy Week -: Students learn about Lent and the events of Jesus Christ’s life that are celebrated in Holy Week.
Inquiry P/1
As an inquirer students will be finding out about how to show respect, listen to others and care for others. Students will develop ideas and understandings about how to develop and maintain friendships. They will use role play and practise ways to persist on difficult tasks and communicate worries or concerns to others.
Literacy
Reading: Students will begin phonics workshops to develop their decoding skills and word recognition. They will learn to sequence texts and make plausible predictions about what might happen next. Students will be exposed to a variety of big books, picture storybooks, class made books and nonfiction books to foster an enjoyment and understanding of literature and the concepts of print.
Writing: Students will learn how to structure a recount about a familiar event or experience. Use sequencing skills to learn to write a simple procedural text. Students will learn to use a rubric to aid in structuring their writing. Students will also learn about punctuation and editing skills.
Speaking and Listening: Students will learn to ask questions and express feelings, in effective ways. They will have the opportunity to role-play difficult scenarios which they may encounter in the school environment. Students will develop their speaking and listening skills by listening and responding to spoken instructions, discuss opinions about characters and events.
Numeracy
Number and Algebra: Students will focus on counting, place value and ordering numbers.
Measurement and Geometry: Students will use informal and formal units to predict and measure objects. They will develop their skills and understanding of time.
Statistics and probability: Students will become familiar with representing information in different ways. Students will discuss whether events are likely to happen or not.

Berry Street
The Prep/One students will learn to identify and label their emotions. They will explore the different ways emotions change the way their body feels and how they can notice these changes. For example; when I am worried, my body feels... ; or when I feel excited, my body feels.... Students will be challenged to think about how their relationships and the world around them influence or change how they were feeling. The students will unpack the ideas of ‘Red Light’ and ‘Green Light’ thinking, in order to have more positive self-talk and be supported to see learning hurdles and personal challenges as a positive part of their growth, not a negative. The children will be introduced to new self-regulation strategies and learn to ground themselves, in order to think more clearly, make better choices and be successful learners.
Library
Library will occur on Tuesdays (P/Q AP) or Wednesday (P/1 LO AND P/1 SG)
Students borrow and return appropriate books from the library on a weekly basis. They are encouraged to select texts of interest, for research and at their lexile level.

Health and Physical Education (Thursday) with Mrs McLeary
Prep
This term students will practice the fundamental movement skills of run, jump, hop and skip. They will practice these skills using different body parts and in a variety of settings. Students will also develop their understanding of basic games emphasising the need for rules and safety.
Year One to Year Two
This term students will practice and refine the fundamental movement skills of run, jump, hop and skip. They will practice these skills using different body parts and with a variety of equipment. Students will also use strategies to work in groups to help identify rules and fair play when participating in games activities.
Mandarin (Thursday) with Parker Yang
Prep
The students start their journey of learning Chinese mandarin through daily greetings and basic numbers. They are learning the distinct features of writing and speaking in Chinese. Students therefore are immersed as much as possible in the sounds and spoken words of Chinese, the meaning of which is made clear through participation in a range of activities.
They become aware of Chinese as a separate language to English and that other languages exist within their own classroom and families.
Year One to Year Two
In term one, Year one and Year two continue participating in class routines, structured conversations and activities using teacher-modelled tones and rhythms. They are learning to match words and phrases spoken in Chinese to images, objects or words in English, such as classroom objects, to develop vocabulary. They will also begin to recognise the importance of tone in Chinese speech and observe that the sounds of Chinese can be encoded in Pinyin using familiar letters.
Music (Thursday) with Ms Belinda
Prep
Prep students will start the year by exploring the many ways they can create sound using their voices, bodies and musical and non musical sound sources. They will be encouraged to develop confidence to sing in front of their peers and together with the class. Students will begin exploring how to hold and play instruments safely and responsibly as part of an ensemble. They will develop their understanding of pitch by distinguishing patterns in high and low sounds. Students will listen to a variety of music and respond through movement, such as dancing to music using their fingers or whole bodies.
Year One to Year Two
Year 1/2 students will further develop their sense of beat and rhythm through movement, rhymes, call and response songs, chants and singing games. Students will begin to identify how many sounds are on a beat and and read rhythms using music notation. They will also explore their responses to different types of music and build their vocabulary to describe music and the emotions they feel. When singing songs, both with the class and on their own, students will focus on matching pitch and rhythm. They will listen and respond to songs that are sung for particular occasions such as birthdays, sporting and cultural celebrations. Students will practise how to hold and play percussion instruments safely and responsibly as part of an ensemble.
Art (Friday) with Miss Georgie
This semester students will learn and review the rules, expectations and responsibilities of using the S.T.E.A.M room. They will learn about growth-mindset in Art through the picture story book ‘Beautiful Oops!’ by Barney Saltzberg. Students will focus on three habits of mind for positive thinking including: ‘Develop Craft’, ‘Envision’ and ‘Observe’. They will experiment with different materials and techniques including monochromatic colour, line art, tissue paper colour transfer, collage and photography. Students will develop their drawing, cutting and pasting skills. They will concentrate on identifying and using the art elements of line, colour and shape. Students will complete exercises in their art folio to extend their skills. They will produce 4 artworks based on the whole school theme of Identity. These will include:

Monochromatic Self-Portraits inspired ‘Be Who You Are’ by Todd Parr
Pablo Picasso inspired Self-Portrait
