Term 3 Reflection

Term 3 was a very successful term where the students displayed wonderful independence and organisational skills demonstrating that they have settled into their new schooling environment.

Our Unit of Inquiry ‘My Special Place’ created lots of discussion and the children gained many new understandings of the area in which they live. Our walking excursion to Black Rock Village was very exciting and allowed the children to make connections with their local community.

During Term 3 we celebrated the milestone of ‘100 days of school’ where the children participated in a variety of activities to commemorate the special day.

Term 4: Inquiry- On the Move

This term our Physical Science Unit of Inquiry is 'On the Move'.  Students will explore how the way an object moves depends on a variety of factors including its size and shape. They will also look at how  push or pull affects how an object moves or changes shape.

Literacy Focus

This term’s literacy unit is a favourite with both the students and their teachers. Each week the Foundation students will be focusing on a traditional fairy tale and completing some very creative activities! This is a wonderful topic as the children have such a breadth of knowledge already which allows us to go further and examine, ’What makes a story a fairytale?’ The children will be able to offer fantastic insights into the tales and their characters. We will be very busy practising our ‘Three Billy Goats Gruff’ song for the ‘Grandparents and Special Friends Day,’ and look forward to showing them our wonderful work in our classrooms.

This term the students will be focusing on:

Maths: Number – Counting,  ordering numbers, addition and subtraction, patterns, sorting and classifying, money and financial mathematics.

Measurement and Geometry– Location and Transformation.

English: Speaking and Listening – questioning and speaking to an audience.

Reading: Literacy Rotations- sounds, words, letter formation, reading strategies.

Writing – Handwriting, recounts, narrative.

Spelling – Frequently used words and letter blends.

Unit of Inquiry: On the Move.

As the children move into their new grades, we have every confidence that they will have a smooth transition. We know that the children will be fantastic role models for the new Foundation students and will make them feel very welcome to our school.
