Middle Unit

Years 1 and 2

The Year 2 students arrived at school last Wednesday morning feeling very excited, and maybe a little nervous, as they were heading away on their very first school camp. The rainy morning didn't dampen our spirits and we managed to get away with all our bags and pillows intact! Over the two days the children participated in four challenge activities. These are designed to allow the children to set the challenge they are comfortable with - while given the opportunity to push themselves a little out of their comfort zone. They were thrilled with the giant swing and the adults were very impressed at the level of bravery displayed! A few of us grown ups even had a go....(did you hear me screeching from Woodend?!) The flying fox also gave students an opportunity to step outside their comfort zone as they zoomed down the hill. Yabbying in the dam required patience and perseverance but we were all rewarded with the satisfaction of catching and releasing a huge number of yabbies. The low ropes course gave the children a chance to challenge their skills in balance and strength as they navigated their way through the course. Throughout the two days we could hear words of encouragement and congratulations as children worked together to achieve their personal challenge goals. What great teamwork!

The children were very excited about spending the night with their friends and after a little time settling down we all manged to get some sleep....

Thank you to the Year 2 children for bringing their enthusiasm and positive attitudes to camp - they all had such a great time and built up their resilience along the way. Thanks also to our fabulous parent helpers who made everything go smoothly and to the teachers who put in such a great effort in preparing and managing the children for a brilliant camp experience.

Here is a lovely reflection on the camp from a Year 2 student:

My Grade 2 Camp

As I went on the astonishing zip line, the cold wind whipped my hair. I was zooming as I flung the glorious Ferrari red rope down. Don’t you think it’s interesting that at breakfast I had cereal X 4, toast X 4 and 1 glass of juice? I’m happy I had a dormitory with Max and Josh. I also liked playing miniature soccer. Have a nice time at camp if you go!

Year 3

As part of our Kindness challenge, students have shared 3 things they are grateful for, with the class. It was a fantastic exercise! Many students shared that they were grateful for the sunshine, their friends, their family and great teachers and school! Our Day 12 challenge is to write a piece for the school newsletter explaining why you enjoy school. Here are two answers from MU8.

  •  Why I enjoy school is because you learnt lots of things that you didn’t know. You do specialist classes like P.E, Art, Library and more. They are my favourite. I also like school because I make new friends and best friends. You also learn joint handwriting. That’s why I enjoy school. By Neve
  •  I like school because I make a lot of friends and I learn lots of things. I also like the teachers because they are really kind. By Bell

We look forward to sharing some more examples next week!

We have started our “Where in the World is Australia?” projects. We have been learning about the 7 continents of the world, the North and South Pole and locating places on a world map that we have connections to. This week we have started looking at Australasia in more detail.

Year 3’s are using technology in the classroom on a daily basis. We play maths games on the iPads, listen to stories on the netbooks and are becoming much faster at publishing our pieces of writing. We have been learning more about how to search for information on the internet and find good information that is easy for us to read and understand.
