Term 1 Week 8

Curriculum

Welcome back after the long weekend! We hope that you are all feeling refreshed and recharged. The 5/6 teachers are looking forward to hearing all about everyone's adventures from the long weekend!

Over the past few weeks in STEM, we have been busy investigating and researching animals that live in the desert! It has been interesting to look at the physical adaptations and behaviours that help them survive in the desert environment. You might like to ask your children for some more information about the research they have conducted.

In Literacy, students were busy undertaking a ‘Cold Write’ early on in the week! All of the teachers were extremely impressed with the hard work students put into their pieces. Later in the week, we began to look at different persuasive techniques.  Students investigated how tourism advertisements use colours, language, and other visual elements to impact their audience. Students were even able to create their own posters for a destination that they want to visit!

In Mathematics, we have been hard at work looking at finishing up our plans for the end-of-year excursion. It was amazing to see all of the hard work that students had put into these pieces over the past sessions. A highlight has been teaching some of the students what GST is and how to fill out a risk register for an excursion. Later in the week, we tackled some place value using a variety of fun and hands-on activities. At the end of the week we created our own in and out formulas to challenge each other! Next week we will continue to unpack place value and begin to look at it in the context of money and financial transactions.

We are looking forward to seeing you all in the upcoming three-way conferences.

Have a wonderful week,

Mrs Brisbane, Miss Walker, Miss Campbell, Ms Bennetts, Mr Burrill and Mr Dix

NAPLAN - Year 3 and 5

To ensure a smooth transition for the upcoming NAPLAN tests in May, students in Years 3 and 5 will undertake a practice test in late March (date TBC). The data from the practice test will not be used for assessment purposes but to familiarise students with the format. Over the next week or two, please ensure all students in Years 3 and 5 have downloaded the NAP Locked Down Browser App or have updated it to its latest update.

Reminders

  • Camp final payments due Friday March 18th.
  • Students are required to bring labelled headphones to use while at school
  • Donation of tissue boxes to use in the classroom would be greatly appreciated
