Things to know

ENROLMENTS OPEN FOR 2023

Let’s spread the good word and let our neighbours know 'why our little school is such a big hit'. We welcome prospective families to peruse our website and book a school tour.

Our tour schedule is available for the entire year, whether booking a group tour or a private tour with the principal.

We have already started planning a range of activities with our local kinders. Next term our teachers will present an information session to support a successful start in Foundation 2023 at RPS.

All future families are welcome, so please use this flyer to share with friends and families in our local community, who might have a child starting school in 2023 or beyond.

WELCOME JACLYN HOLZER - NEW ADMINISTRATION  OFFICER

As we bid farewell to Meagan Brake and wished her all the very best in her new role, we also welcomed to the team Jaclyn Holzer

After working in the marketing industry, Jaclyn decided to pursue studies as an educator. Working in a school is a great way to begin this pathway into education.

Jaclyn is very excited to join us next week and is looking forward to meeting our school community, especially getting to know our students. Please welcome her when you visit our office.

 NAPLAN ONLINE PREPARATIONS STATEWIDE

On Thursday,  students in Year 3 and Year 5 will have an opportunity to participate in an online practice session for NAPLAN 2022. If we look back to 2020, these cohorts never sat these assessments due to the challenges of the global pandemic.

NAPLAN is a point-in-time assessment that allows parents and carers to see how their child is progressing in literacy and numeracy against the national standard and compared with their peers throughout Australia.

At the classroom level, NAPLAN provides additional information to support teachers’ professional judgement about student progress. Federal, state and territory education ministers agreed to gradually transition NAPLAN online by 2022. Ripponlea has been completing online NAPLAN since 2018.

NAPLAN online is a tailored test that adapts to student responses, providing better assessment and more precise results. We urge families to ensure students are not stressed or have added pressure placed on them for these assessments.

LEARNING TUTOR INITIATIVE 2022

The Victorian government has once again made a strong commitment to supporting all students across the state who experienced difficulty during remote learning or have developed some learning gaps after the experiences lived over the last few years. After allowing our students to settle into the term with their teachers and peers, some are now ready to engage in further support in small groups to progress specific skills in reading comprehension, writing, spelling as well as areas of numeracy. For some of our students, this is simply a confidence booster after the rollercoaster experiences of the last few years.

Students have been selected using a range of assessment data. Students will be grouped based on specific growth points and will complete six weeks of intensive support from our tutors, Antonia ProvatasandRob Griffiths.

Families will be notified via COMPASS regarding their child’s participation in this initiative. We also currently have students accessing support through the Macquarie University, evidence-based MiniLitand Macqlit reading intervention program with Emily Ingamells.
