Swimming Carnival Fun!

The DHS Swimming Carnival was smaller this year than it has been in previous years, but the energy and competitive spirit ran high on the pool deck. There was one event that stands out as being particularly special.

In the under 20s boy’s breaststroke, Craig C (12C) appeared to have broken a school record, but an irregularity with the timekeeping for the race made it impossible to confirm. Craig was invited to re-swim the event as an exhibition race later in the day to see if he could break the record officially, and he accepted.

Craig jumped back in the pool, spurred on by his friends and racing against staff member David Regazzoli. It was a close race, but Craig pulled ahead in the last 15m and won decisively, smashing the record by more than two seconds. The record in question was set in 1993 and had stood unbeaten for 29 years!

Congratulations Craig!
