Student Spotlight

Dylan C - Year 9 Media

In Year 9 Media, students begin Photography by learning about the Principles and Elements of Design. Their task requires them to apply the design principles to compose images from what they see around the school. Dylan C (9B) demonstrated a high level of creativity with this photoshoot, using composition skills to create visual interest well beyond his years. His natural abilities along with his teacher’s feedback produced some technically accurate and aesthetically engaging art images. Well done Dylan, I can’t wait to see what you create throughout the year!

Keely X - Year 10 Science

So far in Year 10 Science, I have been learning about biology - specifically all about DNA and Genetics. In order to provide a 3D representation of what a DNA molecule looks like, my science teacher provided a DNA Model Building Kit, which helped everyone better visualise the basic structure of a DNA molecule.

As you can see in the DNA model, the plastic used was somewhat flexible, to ensure the original ladder shape could be twisted into that of a DNA molecule. Additionally, each nitrogenous base has their own unique colour, and is attached to their complementary base pair through hydrogen bonds, which are the orange and grey rectangular pieces down the middle. Although it may be hard to see, the two strands are antiparallel to each other just like that of a real DNA molecule.

Overall, this practical activity was not only pleasant and enjoyable, but it also further enhanced everyone's knowledge of a DNA Molecule.
