Dear Families,

I hope all our families enjoyed the long weekend break. The public holiday was very timely and gave us the opportunity to stop and catch our breath after the transition back to onsite schooling.

This week we welcomed back our happy and energetic Year 3-6 students and it was wonderful to see them.  The teachers were excited to have the students back in their classrooms. Our Middle and Senior students have been so flexible and such great examples of independent learning. Congratulations to all students for their resilience during this time of remote learning.

Term 2 has been a very interesting term with all the remote learning, which has now come to an end. It has also been an opportunity to learn new skills and new ways of learning and teaching. We will take time to reflect on all that has been achieved during this period and look at ways we can use some of the remote learning to enhance our onsite work.

With everyone back on site this week it is very important that we follow our different pick up and drop off arrangements that have been communicated to you below. Thank you to all families for following our physical distancing protocols that help to keep all of us safe and healthy. You have been outstanding in following the new procedures allowing them to run smoothly each morning and afternoon.

Thankyou Families

Thankyou to all of our families for their support during COVID-19.

Due to a financial arrangement we have provided TheirCare, together with a financial subsidy from the government, we are able to offer FREE participation in the upcoming holiday program.  Please make a booking on the following website: www.theircare.com.au

Seeds and Sprouts 2020

In 2019, Galilee ran its inaugural Seeds and Sprouts School Readiness Program with over 50 children from the City of Port Phillip. We were fortunate to receive a grant from the City of Port Phillip to partially fund the program. This enabled us to cater the Seeds and Sprouts program to all children in the City of Port Phillip.

Unfortunately, we do not have the funding from the City of Port Phillip for the 2020 program and therefore our 10 week program will be slightly different.

In 2020, the Seeds program will cater for all students in the City of Port Phillip, while our Sprouts program will be run exclusively for students who are enrolled to begin  Prep at Galilee in 2021.

Our 10 week program aims to prepare children for a Primary School environment and is at no cost to families.

The skills and learning areas our program aims to develop are cognitive skills, language skills, self-help skills, social and emotional learning, physical skills, fine motor skills and pre-Literacy and Numeracy skills.

While there are only a few places remaining for the Sprouts Program, we still have quite a few places for the Seeds program - so if you have a child who will begin school in 2022 or know of anyone that has a child that will begin school in 2022 please forward on this flyer or get them to email seedsandsprouts@gsm.vic.edu.au

Many thanks,

Carmen Carnovale

TheirCare (GOSH)

Last week in Gosh the children enjoyed the theme of the week which was Dinosaur STOMP.

The children really got into the arts and craft activities where Jai, Jessica and Valerie had the best time decorating foam shaped dinosaur eggs, they were so excited to take them home! Elijah and Jacob loved the new sensory plate activity using kinetic sand and dinosaur figurines to act out/role play in a social setting. This has me really glad and motivated to add in a lot more sensory play/activities into the program. Word searches and mazes are always a fun thing for the children to do and use their thinking and problem solving. Letitia and Gemma introduced a Dinosaur Fun Quiz to test the children's knowledge and group participation.  Fossil Cast making - Max, Lian, Claudia, Sarah and Sofia learnt how to follow instructions to make salt dough to use to make, build and investigate fossil prints.

Overall this week the children explored new and exciting things, learnt to read and follow instructions and loved the brand new sensory activity.

Please remember to cancel your child's booking if they are not going to attend an afternoon session as many children are appearing on the roll but not showing up.

Our holiday program is free these holidays. An information poster is on the Community Links page.

Yesterday afternoon , we had a very exciting visit from Cody who is now in his first year of high school. It was really good to see him! He  showed us some photos of his campus, told us about his teachers and what homeschooling was like.  Matteo was very happy to see him, and so were all of the children, Gemma and Letitia.
