Year 7 Adviser Report

What a bust and exciting Term 3 Year 7 have had. They have been work extremely hard in all their subjects from poetry in HR to $20 Boss and rollercoasters in PBL to work on making apps in AppLab, visiting the animals at the farm and making milkshakes in Technology to looking at rocks and minerals in IC.

During Week 4 a numbers of students nominated to run for the Year 7 SRC Representatives. Amelia S, James V, Jone C, Milana SC and Oscar J, all ran for SRC and presented their speeches in front of the whole Year 7 cohort. It is not easy to get up in front of your peers and present a speech, however all students presented extremely well and all should be proud of their efforts. Congratulations to James V and Milana SC for being voted as the SRC Representatives for 2020.

Year 7 this term have participated in their annual Welfare Day. This day is an integral part of the wellbeing of the students here at Henry Kendall High School. We were fortunate enough to have the company High Resolves, present a 2 hour workshop on ‘Identity and Purpose’ to the whole of Year 7. Students found this workshop highly engaging and inspirational. Students also participated in a screen time workshop and a resilience workshop. During the screen time workshop, students learnt about the impacts of too much time spent on in front of screens and what it may look like for them. During the resilience workshop they learnt what is resilience what it may look like and how they can build their own resilience.

To finish the day all students participated in the newspaper fashion parade. Students worked collaboratively to design and produce their best costume. They then walked the runway to show off their designs. All students work well together and had lots of fun.

We have had a number of students represent the school in numerous sporting events this term. Congratulations to Jett B for representing the school at Sydney North Athletics in Shot Put. Jessica H also represented the school for Volleyball at CHS. The under 15's girls netball team consisting of Iona J, Ashlyn H, Jessica H, Shannon L, Hayley N, Luci P, Molly S and Millie P also played their 1st round knockout competition, the girls played well but unfortunately they lost. Congratulations to all students for representing Henry Kendall High School.

As we quickly close in on the end of the year, there are a number of important events still to come in Term 4. Two of these include:

  • 14 October - 2nd round of immunisations
  • 16 October - Yr 7 STEM Taster Day

I look forward to seeing all your smiling faces in Term 4. Enjoy your break, be safe, and be kind to one another.

Year 9 Adviser Report

What an amazing and fulfilling term Year 9 students have had. Year 9 students are to be congratulated for their enthusiasm towards leadership roles and their passion to help others learn and succeed.

A small group of Year 9 students attended the ‘Sun Safe Student Ambassador Program’ where they learnt valuable concepts to bring back to their community. Another six students were selected to attend the ‘Wellbeing in Schools Conference’, where they learnt and experienced new ideas accompanied by Mrs Smith. Year 9 students had to privileged to apply for Peer Support. Peer Support is a vital part of the Year 6 to Year 7 transition process. Year 9 Students get to support Year 6 students to help them familiarise themselves with the school and then be their buddies next year when they are in Year 7.  It was absolutely amazing to see 56 students write an application to apply for Peer Support training. On the training day students engaged in a range of group activities that cover a lot of different areas that can be daunting for a new Year 7 student. Mrs Hogan and myself would like to congratulate all students who trained on their level of commitment and teamwork skills. In Week 10 this term, our Peer Support Leaders get to meet some of our incoming Year 6 students as we start our STAR program.

The Year 9 Wellbeing day was a bit different this year, we had two guest speakers. Adam Newman presented a motivation talk called ‘Finding your passion to find your future’. During this students got to explore in a safe environment what their passion is, and how they could create this into a fulfilling career.

Student were also lucky enough to complete a session with Lauren Swift from High Resolves called ‘Identity and Purpose’. We ended our day with team building game called ‘Minute to Win it’. All staff and guest were impressed with student’s questions and answers and their overall positive and supportive attitude to each other.

Year 9 have been involved in some amazing projects this term. Stage 5 Commerce, which is a Year 9 and 10 class, ran a very successful stall day and made an amazing $521 to donate to Drought Angels to help our farmers out. IST have been learning about all thing Robotics. They got to build their own robots and compete with them on the Robotics Day.

A friendly reminder that students are expected to be in full school uniform everyday. I hope everyone has a relaxing and safe holiday and comes back refreshed and ready for Term 4.

Year 11 Adviser Report

Congratulations to a wonderful group on the successful completion of Year 11! This term has been full of opportunities for Year 11 to showcase all of the qualities that make them a great year group. This includes a large amount of volunteers who helped out at PAN to kick start our Year 12 fundraising, Holly Milly and Sarah Wade’s excellent MAX Potential projects, the implementation of the highly successful ‘Let’s Move At Lunch Time’ program, and their conduct during the Yearly Examinations.

These events are all an indication of the leadership potential within the year group, which has culminated in the appointment of Henry Kendall’s new SRC leadership team for 2020. The school community was incredibly impressed by the maturity and professionalism exhibited by the applicants for school captain. Congratulations to Holly Miller and Oliver Worrad, our new school captains; Harrison Neale and Siobhan Wilby who are vice-captains; and our prefects are Thomas Whelan, Joshua Rond, Angel Gould and Priyansh Gupta.

The start of next term will be busy, with transition interviews on the Tuesday 15 October, study skills sessions and the most exciting event of them all – our three day Life Ready camp from Wednesday 23/10/19 to Friday 25/10/2019. This will be a great opportunity to learn valuable life skills, as well as a fun bonding experience for the year group.

I hope you take the time these holidays to reenergise so you can return ready to tackle Year 12. Thank you for an excellent term!
