Student Services Term 3
Term 3 has been a busy time in Student Services and both staff and students are looking forward to a well deserved holiday.
Year 6 to 7 transition is underway, ensuring that our 2020 Year 7’s have the best start to high school. I would like to acknowledge the work of Karen Hogan, the Year 7 2020 Adviser and Janelle Wilkinson, our Learning and Support teacher. They have been busy visiting our primary schools, getting to know our new Year 7's and tweaking our processes for orientation next term.
Over the last few weeks Tegan Perkins, the Year 12 Adviser, has been supporting her cohort extensively as they prepare to leave the Henry Kendall High School fold. We are extremely proud of their achievements, especially those students who have overcome personal difficulties in the last 12 months and have shown perseverance to complete their studies. Remember, Student Services is always here to support every student until the very last exam if assistance is needed.
Miss Perkins has also supervised and facilitated the learning of our English as Additional Dialect (EALD) students and is thrilled with their achievements. We wish them well in achieving their personal best.
Our Student Wellbeing programs have continued to be an integral part of the Henry Kendall High School culture. We again participated in the Wear it Purple Day morning tea hosted by the Brisbane Water Police Commander, Tony Joice at Gosford Police Station. A commitment to creating safer and more supportive environments for all individuals, irrelevant of their sex, sexuality or gender was the important message of the day.
The Henry Kendall High School Stand Out group then conducted our own celebration of this event the following week. It included a very moving assembly with a guest speaker from the San Remo GLBTI community. The activities continued throughout the recess break. They included a photo booth, face painting, a positive message mural and most importantly, a cake decorating competition.
Our students embraced this event and it was a tough job for Mr Backhouse, Mrs James and Mrs Wearne in choosing the final winners. Congratulations Reece Bennett who was awarded first place.
Last Thursday was R U OK? Day. Our wonderful Interact Club in conjunction with the SRC held an awareness campaign in our library quad. The day was launched with an assembly and R U OK? Day video followed by lots of fun activities in the library quad. The students were encouraged to ask their friends if they were ok while enjoying free hot chocolate. I would like to thank Mrs Dani Bath, Mrs Chloe Mitchell, Mrs Larissa Gunderson and Mrs Julia Kostalas for their organisation of the day.

R U OK? Day
On Thursday 12 September Henry Kendall High School celebrated R U OK? Day.
It was a great opportunity to highlight the positive support for each other we have in the school and start a conversation around mental health.
The students really got behind the activities dressing up for the photo booth, face painting and accepting the R U OK? challenge cards. Students were able to grab a hot chocolate for a mate and ask them "R U OK?". The SRC and Interact Club would like to thank everyone for getting involved.
Please remember to:
1. Ask
2. Listen
3. Encourage Action
4. Check In
