MATHEMATICS
Term 3 has been another busy term for all involved in Mathematics. Years 7 - 10 have completed an investigation assignment this term, with real-world applications. Year 7 investigated angles in flight paths and designing a bedroom. Year 8 have completed an investigative project, providing them with an insight into the life of a government statistician. The Year 8 students were provided with raw data on the outbreak of ‘Virus X’ and were tasked with analysing this data and providing a media report. Year 9 investigated applications of Algebra and Equations where that had to design an Escape room task and Year 10 investigated the extensive mathematics involved with setting up a music festival.
Year 11 are currently sitting their Final examinations and will be receiving their marks and feedback at the start of Term 4, before embarking on their final year of secondary schooling. Students will be advised by the Head Teacher Mathematics of any required course changes based on the final exam and assessment task results. In order to maximise ATAR scores, it is imperative that all mathematics students are in the appropriate course suited to their ability level.
Maths and Milo has continued to grow over Term 3, and a huge thanks goes out to the Mr Scott, Vince and the Year 10 students who volunteer as tutors every week. Maths and Milo is a drop-in centre which is open to all students and is run before school at 8.00am every Tuesday in GL9. There is no need for students to sign up, just drop in to get some help with their maths work over a nice cup of Milo.
Henry Kendall High School is also privileged to have a wonderful Maths Club, which runs every Wednesday after school. Maths Club is run by the Smith Family and connects students with volunteer tutors from the wider community. The students work in small groups with their tutor to consolidate mathematical skills. Due to increased demand, Maths club is now mainly a senior club. To secure a place, please contact Ms Lill. Many thanks to all the volunteer tutors and teachers involved in the successful running of the Maths Club.
Term 3 sees the school farewelling the Year 12 cohort of 2019 as they prepare to embark on the next stage of their lives. Year 12 students are strongly encouraged to use their time wisely over the break. The break should be an opportunity to revise and refine their skills before the HSC exams. If students wish, there will be opportunities for them to come to school during the holidays for some final revision: please see relevant classroom teachers for details. Students need to be completing past HSC exam papers in preparation for their exams and are encouraged to reach out to their teachers if they need help. We wish all Year 12 students the very best in their future endeavours.
