Term 3 HSIE and Middle School Report
The HSIE and Middle School Faculties would like to wish Year 12 students all the very best as they begin their final preparations for the HSC exam.
Many of the 2019 cohort began their high school journeys with Middle School and for us it has been a privilege to watch you mature and reach new heights as you progressed at Henry Kendall High School.
I would like to thank the wonderful HSIE team – Mr David Ardley, Mrs Julia Kostalas, Miss Cass McLennan and Mrs Chloe Mitchell for the expertise, passion for learning and support you have provided our Year 12 students within our faculty and beyond.
Congratulations to the following students on their exceptional results in Year 12 courses this year:
Ancient History – Paris Blair
Business Studies – Emily Chung
Legal Studies – Alexandra Sidiropoulos
Modern History – Katie Lewis
History Extension – Tally McIntyre
On a personal note, I wish all my Ancient History and History Extension students all the very best as you begin your exams. It has been an absolute joy to share the last two years and more with you.
You have endured my bad impersonations of Tutankhamun, my tired jokes and many, many work booklets. I look forward to hearing about your successes in the future.
As one HSC journey ends, a new one begins…. congratulations to our Year 11 students on the completion of their Final Course Examinations. Get ready for a busy Term 4, as HSC courses and assessment begin. Students who are wishing to apply for History Extension must also submit their Expression of Interest forms to Mr Macdonald by the end of Term 4, Week 1.
A huge congratulations to our Middle School students on the preparations for $20 Boss in Term 4. Our students have some very imaginative ideas and have been working through their course booklets. All profits from the $20 Boss Market Day will be donated to a Henry Kendall High School Student Fund. This will support students and families in need.
Wishing you all the very best for the holidays.

Sydney University Nicholson Museum
On Monday 2 September, Year 11 Ancient/Modern History and Stage 5 Elective History visited Sydney University Nicholson Museum to be transported back in time. Students were initially amazed at the beautiful architecture of the University, reminiscent of Hogwarts, and enjoyed the experience of feeling like a University student for the day.
The students examined artefacts in the museum, covering aspects such as mummification, ethical issues of the treatment of human remains, Life at Pompeii, and Greek weapons and warfare. A hands-on experience was also arranged for students to analyse authentic ancient artefacts and determine their purpose in the ancient world. Henry Kendall High School students particularly enjoyed this components as they donned their gloves and delved into the past, touching artefacts from Imperial Rome, swords from ancient Sparta, and bronze figurines from Pompeii. Another standout feature was the LEGO model of the city of Pompeii. This was such an invaluable experience for our budding historians who were wonderful representatives of the school. Thank you to Mr Newton and our Henry Kendall High School students for such a fantastic day.
